We've installed several collections of artifacts in the new building, including objects found at the Great Temple in Petra, on permanent loan from the Jordanian government. Among these is the wreath block that has become the logo of the Joukowsky Institute...

Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World Professor John F. Cherry proposed a plan to try to recreate the famous 1875 photograph taken on the west steps of Rhode Island Hall, featuring Prof. Jenks and his taxidermy class, with — standing next to Jenks — Martha Joukowsky's grandfather, no less. And so, we did. The final result will be included in the upcoming issue of JIAAW newsletter, Inventory. Included here are photos of the staging, in progress.

Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World The elephant-headed capital, a replica of the capitals at the Great Temple in Petra, was installed on Brown's Main Green, in front of the Institute's new home in Rhode Island Hall. A full-day project!

We’ll keep updating the blog as a window into our work in progress but eventually most of our content will be hosted over there. Please keep in mind it’s under constuction, and will continue changing as our webpadawan learns the ways of html and css.

We've just uploaded some new photos of the Rhode Island Hall construction. The builders are moving quickly these days, with new things happening every day. The Joukowsky Institute will be moving next week -- if all goes well, we should be moved in by Tuesday, September 1st.
