Absolutely! Spaying and neutering is very important - shelters are sometimes not able too keep up with the kittens/puppies every year... There are wonderful cats available for adoption in shelters, older cats make great pets too!

Hi sorry I did not catch your question sooner - yes, crouching, swaying and elevated hindquarters and low or urgent meowing are signs of being in heat!

Aura Sullivan

Aura Sullivan I AM HAPPY TO BE A FAN. I HAVE A BALINESE, 4 YEARS OLD. SHE HAS NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE. HOWEVER, I HAD AN EXTENDED STAY IN THE HOSPITAL THE DAY I GOT HER, AND SHE IS SORTOF WEIRD. SHE DOES NOT LIKE TO BE PETTED, EXCEPT SOMETIMES, SHE HIDES IF
ANYONE COMES AROUND. SOMETIMES IF I AM
PETTING HER, SHE REACHES SOME LIMIT, AN...D
ATTACKS MY HAND. I AM SO SAD ABOUT THIS, BUT DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO. AND..............SHE JUST STARTED PEEING ON THE FURNITURE AND ON MY BED. I GUESS SHE
HAS TO GO, BUT MY HEART IS BROKEN. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP. BLESSINGS, AURA

Hi Aura,
I would try Feliway - it comes in a wall plug in diffuser and it triggers the cat's system to release the "happy, calming" hormones. You may have to confine your kitty to one area of the house for a few hours a day to allow her to calm down and the Feliway to set in. It is not a drug, and will only affect cats. You can find it in most ... See Morelarge pet stores. Our cat Piglet was an abused kitten, and she needed time, Feliway, and an adjustment period to us before we could pet her regularly. She still has a limit, though. Peeing is a sign of emotional distress, once she adjusts and feels calmer it will likely stop. A quiet place just for her, with her bowls, litter, bed and toys (and Feliway!) will likely help her to be less stressed.
Let me know how it goes!
