Born into a secular Jewish home, Rachel grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and New York City knowing the traditions of her culture, but not a personal Savior. She made her vocal debut at age 11 singing ironically “Amazing Grace” at a school talent show. Her performance drew widespread praise, helping her to see she had a gift for singing.
In her teen years Rachel began spending weekends with a friend whose family attended a Christian church. She often tagged along, more out of courtesy to the family than personal conviction. During one such church service, a lady stood up to sing. As she sang, she presented herself with an enthusiasm and radiance that prompted Rachel to search her heart. How could this woman sing with such confidence about something that to Rachel, seemed so false?
Rachel reasoned that either she or the lady must be mistaken about God, but not both. Either the joy and peace she saw in the lady’s face must be genuine or all a terrible sham. This epiphany in church began a series of miracles that led Rachel to accept Jesus as her Savior and dedicate her life and musical gift to Him. Now only nine years later, Rachel has used her moving testimony and powerful mezzo-soprano voice to touch thousands of hearts both in the United States and internationally. She has sung for It Is Written evangelist Mark Finley, Louis Torres and David Asscherick. She has sung all over Europe as well as toured extensively thorughout the United States. In 2005, she produced her first album, “He Faithfully Leads”, a collection of hymns and sacred songs and was a featured artist with Know Hymn ministries. Rachel worked with the Southern Union of Seventh-day Adventists as a literature evangelism leader and trainer and was a full time Bible worker for the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference.
Being a graduate of Mission College of Evangelism and an alumni of Southern Outreach Leadership School, (aka SOULS) Rachel has poured her life into helping the secular world learn about Jesus Christ. After years of Bible work, literature evangelism and public evangelism, Rachel is now traveling the world giving Jewish concerts in Christian churches, helping to bring about an awareness of our responsibility as Christians to reach our Jewish friends. Her concert style is very informative, full of life and very joyful as Jewish music is known for being a cheerful, uplifting genre. She expects to release her second album in February, 2010. Rachel Hyman is our only Hebrew-singing evangelist in the Adventist church outside of Israel and sang for ASI's first Jewish-Adventist evangelistic series in the summer of 2009.
Rachel's heart-touching testimony of leaving home at the age of 17 to follow Jesus Christ has bound her to the hearts of congregations throughout the world. We hope you will prayerfully consider inviting Rachel to come and hold a concert at your church. Church members and guests will leave with sweet joy of being inspired with such a unique experience of hearing authentic Hebrew music and a rare testimony of a Jewish girl. You will feel renewed motivation to serve Jesus Christ with your whole heart, holding nothing back.
