EVERY year, when I test the waters of mail- order gifts, I cast a wide net in the hope of finding some treasures. And every year, there are things I would love to have someone send me. Some years there are things so wonderful that I will be sending them to myself.
This turned out to be one of those years.
I found the rarest and, without doubt, the best Parmigiano Reggiano in the world — a cheese made in such tiny quantity that it is almost impossible to find outside Italy.
So, of course, it turned up on a new Internet site.
