Lots to think about especially at a time when we are supposed to honour a sacrifice and a duty/calling above and beyond a person's own feelings.

Yes. The call to 'sacrifice' or 'fight' for an unclear larger good has often been the mask of evil intention. The largest good is to evolve one's self. Taking concrete actions for the development of the Self. For me, it's my self. For another, it's their self.

How to do it? This is by cultivating an eye that sees the world. When we are able to observe the world as it is, we can also determine what to do. The world will always guide us by revealing to us the essential principles of life.

Too often, a few people manipulate a large number of people in the name of the higher good. History gives ample advice on the matter.

The truth is that each human is capable of experiencing and witnessing the truth for themselves, and able to act upon it. This does not mean that humans will not coordinate or do good. Quite the opposite. 'Doing good' is in the natural best interest of humanity.

One of the subjects I am reflecting upon during the winter break.

See Moreunderstanding is that in general the good ethics around us would grow if we rather let others practice their goodness than demand that we be allowed to practice ours. Which is not to say that we not be 'good'. But rather, we can make room for ourselves to be effortlessly good by giving rooms to others first.

When we give room to others, we subconsciously signal that this is how we would rather be treated too.
