Der Rapbattle des Jahres findet... zwischen Jay-Z und Nas statt, L.L. Cool J wird von den Furious Five wegen unerlaubter Samplebenutzung in dem Song "4,3,2,1! verklagt, Puff Daddy ändert seinen Namen in P.Diddy und die Beastie Boys gehen 15 Jahre nach Releasedatum mit "Licensed to ill" neunfach Platin! Plus One von den Scratch Perverts gewinnt die DMC Worldchampionships, DJ Woody gewinnt die ITF Worldchampionships, Q-Bert releast den bahnbrechenden Animationsfilm zu seinem Album "Wave Twisters" und die National Association of Music Merchandisers (NAMM) erkennen den Plattenspieler als offizielles Instrument an. Wichtige Indie-Releases des Jahres sind unter anderem Dilated Peoples "Expansion Team", Jay Dee "Welcome To Detroit", Edo G "The Truth Hurts", Hi-Tek "Hi-Teknoligy" & viele viele mehr. Vor allem Groove Attack releast mit der Superrappin-Reihe eine Vielzahl sehr guter Independent-Künstler, die hauptsächlich von der Ostküste stammen.

Doch Dr. Dre lässt sich nicht lumpen und schickt neben Eminem auch noch gleich sich selbst mit "2001" in's Rennen und räumt ab wie lange nicht mehr. Run DMC versuchen ihr Comeback mit "Crown Royal" und Anticon erfinden Hip Hop für sich gleich mal neu. DJ Hype verteidigt seinen deutschen ITF Titel erfolgreich, international sind weiterhin die Allies bestimmend. Sämtliche ITF & DMC Einzeltitel werden von A-Trak & Craze errungen. Der DITC Shootingstar Big L wird am 15.2. in Harlem erschossen. R.I.P.

DMX schafft es in diesem Jahr gar zweimal die Pole Position anzuführen während Pufff Daddy es schafft zu internationalem Celebrity Star aufzusteigen. L.L. Cool J liefert sich mit dem Newcome Canius einen seltenen Track-Dissbattle während Dr. Dre Eminem auf sein Label Aftermath verpflichtet. Die Beginner veröffentlichen "Bambule" und gehen mit dem zusätzlichen Remixalbum "Boombule" Gold. DJ Hype gewinnt die ersten deutschen ITF Championships, während die ITF Weltmeisterschaften von den Allies um DJ Craze dominiert werden, der auch den DMC Welttitel nach Hause trägt. Der legendäre Graffking Dondi stirbt am 2.10. an einer Lungenentzündung. R.I.P.
