Save the date! Saturday, October 11, 2008

Clifton United Methodist Church in Cincinnati is celebrating ten years as a reconciling congregation, and we invite you to share in our celebration and ministry. On October 11, you are invited to attend a "Celebration of Living Promise Conference" here at our church home. Further details and registration information will be sent early this fall. We hope you will join us for a day of radical hospitality, passionate worship, and spirit-led workshops, facilitated by a slate of incredibly gifted persons, including Tex Sample who will also be preaching here the following day.

Come celebrate with us our calling to be a church home for ALL persons. It is our hope that this conference will equip and empower you and your church to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with ALL of God's Beloved Children.

We will also be posting details of the conference at our web site www.cliftonumc.com

Hey Matt: I finally found my way here; I am finding the need to become as actively involved as I am able, to hopefully facilitate change and open minds and hearts, for my family as well as for my congregation and the church as a whole. Great to be here! peace, Vanessa

So North Central still doesn't have a new bishop. Oy. Looks like they're going for a centrist. And by 'centrist' I mean someone for whom I can't find a stated opinion on homosexuality.

At vote 20(!!):

Julius Trimble (said centrist): 110
David Bard (Reconciling): 106
Gregory Stover (ex-gay): 43

162 votes needed to secure the episcopacy.

Assuming that more votes is a good thing, the North Central Jurisdiction Bishop election results are looking almost promising. On the fourth ballot, two of the top three candidates have histories of being at least understanding and sympathetic to the cause of Reconciling Ministries. Laurie Haller (top at 54 votes) expressed disappointment after Fort Worth, and David Bard (#3 with 42) is lead pastor of a Reconciling Congregation! Unfortunately, Greg Stover (#2 with 52 votes) is on the board for the Confessing group. (Odd that that isn't indicated on his bio. Hm...)

It'll be interesting to see the field continue to narrow. Hopefully if Bard gets knocked out we can count on his voters to go to Haller.

by Rev. Gilbert H. Caldwell In the late 1930's The Christian Century magazine launched a series titled, "How My Mind Has Changed". I have been wondering for a number of years if the Church, the United Methodist Church in particular, has not perfected the art of "changing without changing"?

by Will Green This last week many of us were studying the story of the Israelites' oppression in Egypt. God turned my heart to remembering newcomers in the United States, God's people who aren't documented by our government.
