A lot of us take what we do very seriously. That not everyone in this activity is a nice person, that regardless of what the rules are on any forum, some people will be outright rude for reasons you cannot fathom and the regulator will let it happen and the best thing you can do is just shut up and leave that forum!
That often there is no right or wrong, just different views and interpretations.
That research is a big part of what we do and you will be expected to do your fair share before clothing and equiping yourself.
That men are not superior to women, and that women have as much right to enter a contest or activity as men do.
That if you hold an officer's rank, that is not an excuse to act inapropriately and be overbearing with other participants.... Read More
That dispite a few bad eggs among us the majority of us are fun loving and easy to get on with and always willing to lend a hand.
That this hobby/activity/passtime is fun, educational, exciting at times, family oriented, & covers a wide range of interests to suit most people.

I was fortunate to participate in the 140th Gettysburg. Beautiful place, well preserved. My ancestors fought there with J.B. Kershaw's Brigade & Wade Hampton's Cavalry, all good South Carolineans.

Double up on clothing so you can remove or add at need (this is documented). Wear woolen clothing including mittens. Carry a Monmouth cap and a spare wool shirt and weskit in your bedroll for wearing at night.

Carry at least one good wool blanket.
Encourage your wife to attend so you can keep each other warm at night. Keep a supply of firewood close to hand so you do not have to leave your bed to stoke the fire.
Store some dry kindling in the back of your shelter in case the fire goes out in the night.
