Renegade HR David Logan on tribal leadership (via TED)

www.ted.com

Although the information appeared interesting, I was extremely distracted by Logan's continued use of the term "tribe" and I ended the video rather quickly. It's possible that my work as a Director for the RI Indian Council has made me more sensitive to an appropriation of that term for a business metaphor but I don't think so. I would have been ... See Moreequally distracted if Logan used the term "mafia" in his presentation. I am curious how authentic tribal leadership would view the message within this video. Sorry Chris, this one irritated the hell out of me.

I went to school for anthropology, and absolutely love the re-adaptation of the word tribe. But I also don't feel that it's a word that refers specifically to Native ... See MoreAmericans, as there are many "tribes" of people in various cultures throughout the world.

The difference for me is that I define "tribe" as a group of people who share a culture, while I feel Mafia refers to a specific type of closed culture - namely, organized crime. I don't believe that's a fair analogy. I'm actually a bit curious as to what about the word "tribe" you find inappropriate. Care to elaborate?
