Latino Population is growing at a fast pace.
What does that mean for the country?
The University of Nevada, Reno Latino Research Center and the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) are pleased to announce "The Social, Economic and Political Implications of Latino Population Growth" presented by renown Latino... leader Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. The lecture will focus on how the growth of the Latino population will reshape our daily lives and how it will impact the nation and beyond.
The Latino Research Center has had the opportunity to bring about many events for Hispanic Heritage Month in past years like "Nosotros por Nosotros" in 2007 and "An Evening with Isabelle Allende" in 2008. Now we have a man who's spent his life helping others learn to lead and serving peoples all over the world coming to us to share ideas and build an understanding of our own futures.
Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. is President of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, which does political organizing, research and nonpartisan voter registration and leadership development. He is a Presidential Medal recipient, honored by President Bill Clinton for “the performance of exemplary deeds of service for the nation.” Under his leadership the Institute has trained over 200,000 present & future leaders, registered over two million new voters and published 425 studies on Hispanic demographics since 1982. He has worked and participated in the democratization of Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Paraguay, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and Haiti. He has been recognized three times as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in America. He has earned five college degrees, including a doctorate from Northern Illinois University and a post-doctorate M.A. from Loyola University in Chicago.
"Dr. Andrade has the pulse of Latinos in politics throughout the US and his presentation will give the community of Reno invaluableinformation about not only the upcoming election but also the latest research on the Latino vote", said Dr. Emma Sepulveda, Director of the
UNR Latino Research Center.
Dr. Andrade is also a visiting professor during the fall semester at UNR, where he is teaching a leadership class specially tailored to Latino students, a pioneering initiative to increase student participation within and outside of campus.
The event is open to the public and admission is free.
