Lance Elbaum

Lance Elbaum You guys have a great product and adding a scanner is also a good idea, may I suggest that you make an option in the Returnil messages that you get to whitelist false positives from there. I get alot of false positives especially concerning my virus scanner, and I use Avira. So an easier way to whitelist would make this an absolutely perfect product

Hi Dean,
RVS can be considered as disk control rather than a sandbox as such. There is no disguise in what it does. It takes control of the System Partition and the presents Windows a fantasy world where changes can take place while the real system partition remains static.

After restart of the computer, the fantasy Windows was working is is dropped and the process starts all over again at the next boot (provided that the virtualization is set to start with Windows).

Andreas Where are the virutal changes saved when SystemSafe ist activated... only to the RAM or on a Tempfile on the Disk? if last one: is it encrypted? can i choose where to save it? can it be securely deleted (overwrite) on Shutdown?

Hi Andreas,
The answer to your first question is: not exactly. The RAM is used first, but not in the way you are suggesting. There will still be disk writes regardless. Think of this as memory (RAM + Disk) rather than RAM or Disk.

We are working towards your second question, but it is not yet available. The first part of the development is ... See Moreavailable for testing with mulit-partition/disk virtualization in the RVS Labs beta version. The new engine being tested there supports the creation of non-system partition caches on an alternate disk or partition (ex: Data drive D:\ is virtualized with its cache created/maintained on supplemental disk E:\). Further developments in this direction will eventually support this for the system partition as part of our goal to fully support solid state disk drives.

-Eric Russo-songwriter Does RVS 2010 Home Free (and others) REPLACE an anti-virus program such as AVG, Norton, etc.; or does it work in conjunction with one??? Also, noticing the "Home Classic" edition doesn't have Virus Guard.....is that if you have an existing anti-virus program? UNDER MOST CONDITIONS, YOU ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO HAVE MORE TH...AN 1 ANTIVIRUS (OR 1 FIREWALL) WITHOUT SERIOUS ISSUES, but as many anti-spyware/malware apps. as you want. Thanks you somebody. I wish developers would make more things more clear, especially so that say...my mom won't be unclear or destroy her PC due to lack of knowledge.

Hello Eric,
The Virus Guard component has been designed to be compatible with most 1st and 2nd tier antivirus solutions. The important thing to keep in mind is to make sure that these and any other security programs are temporarily disabled when installing or uninstalling RVS 2010, especially if you are installing a version with the VG included.

... See MoreIf you are using the unregistered free or Home Free versions, you should use a trusted solution to perform occasional deep scans of your computer to ensure all non-system disks and partitions are clean, as the Virus Guard is not available after a period of time in the unregistered version and in the registered free version, you only have access to the Quick Scan. With this said however, using RVS 2010 as intended (System Safe always on except when performing specific functions - disk defrag, Windows/Microsoft updates, hardware and/or driver updates/upgrades, etc) and stand-alone is a valid strategy.

Hello Zainudin,
This is expected as RVs will remove all changes at restart of the computer when using the virtualization. Most e-mail clients, including Outlook allow you to change where the program saves your e-mails and personal folders (EX: In OL 2003, this is Options > Mail Setup TAB > Data files section).

Change the path in the e-mail client to a non-system drive or partition and the e-mails should be saved following a restart.
