Brit Lively Wasn't the separation of church and state the primary foundation our country was built on? I don't understand why the Teabaggers haven't taken up that cause yet. Will they ever? It's so fundamental.

Jim Hinsberger Wow,, I grew up catholic w/ school and new to this page. I adjusted okay to the way I was brought up ,, Last nov. went to mass with parents and heard a sermon carefully laced with political agenda .. Even though I was shocked I took it as an abberation. Apparrantly I was wrong

Sarah Wenig If the Catholic Church insists on influencing and interfering in this Jewess' personal relationship with my MD and my GOV'T, they will have to pay. And is synagogues and other religions don't speak out against those effort, they should all hav thier books audited and pay taxes

Perhaps we should discuss why a tax-exemption is such a big deal to the churches anyway...are they perhaps facing insolvency due to dwindling congregations? (In Australia, for example, church attendance is down to 9% of the population, and falling- according to The Age, a mainstream newspaper in Melbourne.)
In reality, ...how much would it actually change their ability to carry out charitable work, perhaps achieved by donating it's own money to recognised, non-religious charities? Would a change of legislation push them over the edge? Would people stop donating to a church if it was not tax-deductible? If so, then it's all about tax-dodging loosely connected to some moral issues. Thoughts welcome.Read More

What about Private university? Ther are thousands that are tax exempt but are offering nothing back to the community surrounding them regardless of how much is needed. SWTS in Texas is in the middle of a low income neighborhood. While the neighborhood needs the improvements that could only happen if the university prop...erty were taxed, the Seminary does nothing to help finance the much needed developement or support local economy. TCU does, the area around it has steadily improved when all other areas were in decline. The University supports local economic growth in a number of ways.Read More

Christopher Just curious folks, what do you think about some one who thinks that abortion is morally wrong, but doesn't want to take away that right from another person?
