Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School The Philharmonic Music School is offering an Alexander Technique Workshop with Mary Derbyshire on Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 pm. A highly-effective method used to relieve tension and improve coordination, The Alexander Technique can be especially beneficial to musicians dealing with excessive stress, injury or pain t...o enhance their performance skills. This technique has helped generations of instrumentalists and singers perform with less stress, easing the likelihood of injury and improving the quality of their performance. In Alexander Technique lessons students are taught practical tools to improve their breathing and coordination to produce performances which are more fluid and less tense of rigid. The Alexander Technique is included in the curriculum of a number of conservatories and university music departments including The Juilliard School, The Royal College of Music in London and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

Mary Derbyshire is a Certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.

This workshop is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, call 401.248.7001 or email tmscentral@riphil.org.
