Saturday evening, September 26 at 8:00 Music Director LARRY RACHLEFF opens his 14th season with an extraordinary Opening Night concert. Internationally acclaimed Pianist LILYA ZILBERSTEIN joins the Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, op.37. Mr. Rachleff has selected Barber’s The S...chool for Scandal: Overture and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major, op. 73 to complete the Opening Night program.
Since winning first prize in the 1987 Busoni International Piano Competition, LILYA ZILBERSTEIN has established herself as one of the finest pianists in the world. In North America, she has appeared with the symphonies of Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Montreal, Oregon and Saint Louis, to name a few. In Europe and Asia, her engagements have included the Berlin Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, Helsinki Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Symphony, Moscow Philharmonic, NHK Symphony (Tokyo), RAI Symphony (Torino), Royal Philharmonic and the Vienna Sym¬phony. This is Ms. Zilberstein’s third appearance with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
