Grant Mudge

Grant Mudge  is very grateful to all who braved the (very) chilly new offices and main room of Richmond Shakespeare's new offices for Othello tonight---more than I can say. Saw some really outstanding, knock-your-socks-off-if-it-weren't-so-damn-cold talents tonight. This show is going to rock. And the new offices will get the heat repaired.

Richmond Shakespeare 4 Sessions – You must attend all 4 sessions

Cost: $120 total
Limit 12 students

A fun approach to developing characters for any style of theatre. Through improvisation, game-playing, and imagination exercises, actors learn to creater a character totally removed from themselves -- yet based... on their own physicalities and inner life -- and endow that character with all the traits of any "real" person. Actors are encouraged to think big, make big and interesting choices, and investigate all possibilties of character behaviors, better equipping the actor for the work he/she and the director will do in the rehearsal process. Each actor will have a fully fleshed-out character, and a solo performance piece, by the end of the workshop.

Actors should wear comfortable clothing in which they can move. No skirts or dresses, even for the men. Actors must be able to commit to all four class meetings. Note: this is NOT a workshop in clowning. Juggling, stilt walking, fire-eating, etc., are terrific, but this workshop deals with a specific system of character development for actors in legitimate theatre. Actors with physical challenges are welcome at this workshop.

David Sennett, facilitator for this workshop, has been a professional actor, director, and theatre trainer for over 30 years. He developed this workshop in conjunction with Ken Sonkin and Kenny Raskin (formerly the lead clown for Cirque du Soleil), and has taught it pretty much everywhere, to pretty much everyone.

The company's artistic director, Grant Mudge, and its director of education, Cynde Liffick, adapted the Dickens classic into a 70-minute tour-de-force for Mudge and the versatile Julie Phillips. And every year it seems fresh and magical.
