From flying saucers to big green bugs, space monsters of all shapes and sizes have a special place in our minds and hearts. But did you know that that there was an unidentified flying object that mysteriously crashed near the Texas border town of Del Rio in 1955? Local author Noe Torres talks about this and much more, ...sharing his experiences in UFO research during the “Space Monsters at the Library” event at STC’s Pecan Campus Library at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event is free and open to the public.
During the event, Torres will speak about his latest book, “The Other Roswell,” and will disclose the latest findings about the case. Copies of the book will be on sale, and the author will hold a book signing before and after the program.
A teacher and librarian in South Texas for more than 20 years, Torres’ interest in local history and sports led to his first book, published in 2005, titled “Ghost Leagues: A History of Minor League Baseball in South Texas.” His second book, “Baseball’s First Mexican-American Star: The Amazing Story of Leo Najo “(2006) was selected as a “Book of the Year” in 2006 by “The Monitor.”
The library will also show the movie “Roswell: The UFO Cover-Up.” Visitors are encouraged to don their favorite space monster or space age costume and check out the books on display about aliens, the paranormal and all things Halloween.
While on campus, those in attendance will have the opportunity to use the library’s free services or view artwork on display in the Library Art Gallery. The Pecan Campus Library offers a free Community Library Card, allowing community members to check out books at any of STC’s libraries for free.
