Rising Star Science Fiction Convention This is our post-con meeting where we discuss what went right and what went wrong this year and theme and direction of next year's con.

Location:Bluefield State College Student Center
Rising Star Science Fiction Convention The convention was a success. We had 92 attendees which is way up from last year (56) and is a new record for the Bluefield venue. We also get a record amount from the charity auction: $280. There were a few glitches, but it mostly went smoothly and a good time was had by all. The date for next year is OCT. 22 & 23, 2010. We'll see you then!!

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention We're into day 2 now -- lots of cool stuff on tap: demos, panels, charity auction, White Plectrum concert... all of this for the low, low cost of $5. :D

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention Tomorrow's the day!! We start at 6pm and run to midnight. We'll have an indepedant film festival & trailer park and a dance. Then on Sat. things will kick off at 9am and run until midnight. This is when everything happens. Guests, workshops, gaming and so much more! Tickets are $5, good for both days, free for BSC students, facuty and staff!DON'T MISS IT!!!

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention One week until Rising Star 18! Make sure to make plans to be with us. Oct. 23 & 24 on the campus of Bluefield State College in Bluefield, WV. Tickets are only $5!! Good for BOTH days!! BSC students, faculty and staff get in FREE as well as children under 10!!
The Abingdon Historical Combat group will be teaching a class in proper, historical longsword technique at Rising Star, in addition to the fight demo and cutting demo. Each participant in the class must use as a weapon simulator of some kind. A wooden sword or something close to it, but NO METAL...

Like every convention we have some cancellations. Captain Lazerblast Band wil be unable to make it. Also, the AMTGARD group will also not be able to make it. But we have booked someone from the 501st and they will be there on Friday night. We also have a new vendors and a Magic: The Gathering Tournament added. Rising Star Science Fiction Convention This the LAST meeting before the convention next month. All staff members need to be at this meeting if at all possible. Anyone else who would like to help will be welcome to attend. We will, as always, be ordering out for pizza sometime during the meeting. Open to the public.
