Rising Star Science Fiction Convention This is our post-con meeting where we discuss what went right and what went wrong this year and theme and direction of next year's con.

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention The convention was a success. We had 92 attendees which is way up from last year (56) and is a new record for the Bluefield venue. We also get a record amount from the charity auction: $280. There were a few glitches, but it mostly went smoothly and a good time was had by all. The date for next year is OCT. 22 & 23, 2010. We'll see you then!!

we were experimenting with some childrens programming this year(which we had never done before) however the people that had been lined up to help me with that all cancelled at the last minute. due to the fact that the evening help all cancelled we shut down early. also we were not allowed to eat in the room that we were using therefore we had to ... See Moreschedule a couple meal breaks. we did have childrens programming running from 10-1 then again from 2-4 originally planned till five but all the kids had cleared out by 4.

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention

Rising Star Science Fiction Convention Tomorrow's the day!! We start at 6pm and run to midnight. We'll have an indepedant film festival & trailer park and a dance. Then on Sat. things will kick off at 9am and run until midnight. This is when everything happens. Guests, workshops, gaming and so much more! Tickets are $5, good for both days, free for BSC stud...ents, facuty and staff!DON'T MISS IT!!!

Introduction to the longsword class at Rising Star. Sponsored by Abingdon Historical Combat.
The Abingdon Historical Combat group will be teaching a class in proper, historical longsword technique at Rising Star, in addition to the fight demo and cutting demo. Each participant in the class must use as a weapon simulator of some kind. A wooden sword or something close to it, but NO METAL...
