| Activities: | In the 2008 election Rob Roy received 4,504 votes - which means 38.1% of voters cast their vote for Rob. His budget was under $250 while some of his opponents surpassed 50 grand. We'll keep this page around because Rob isn't going anywhere. --------------------------------- Rob Roy is a recent graduate of UC Davis, former ASUCD Senator, regional manager for Ben & Jerry's, and currently a substitute teacher for DJUSD. He is a Green Party member and stands for green values: environmental justice not green-washing. Rob Roy is running for City Council to keep Davis a unique, great place to live, on the forefront of environmentally conscious city planning. Let's not let Davis become Anywhere, USA. |
| Interests: | Rob Roy opposed Measure X because Covell Village would have expanded Davis too quickly and our population is already reaching the brink of what we can handle with our Waste Water Treatment facility. The project was bad for traffic and did not have enough affordable homes. Rob Roy opposed Measure K because the Target store will be too big, too close to Mace homes, and not really as "green” as the project claimed. Rob Roy is a renter and will fight for tenants’ rights. In Davis, just as every candidate claims to be green, we all claim to be student-friendly but being a student-friendly means being renter-friendly and not accepting campaign contributions from large property management/development companies. |
| Favorite Music: | The local kind, preferably at all-ages music venues. |
| About Me: | Rob Roy is a Davis progressive promoting: * Slow-growth! Focus on infill development. Follow the General Plan. Renew Measure J. No more sprawling onto agricultural land. No more spreading school enrollment too thin. * Improving bike safety and bike culture. * Tenants’ Bill of Rights (Code compliance of landlords, return of security deposit w/ interest, and a standardized lease renewal period). * Environmental Justice: Curbside composting, park sustainablity, solar energy, and reducing our plastic bag and styrofoam use. * Choice Voting (with a limited City Charter). * Living Wage Ordinance for employees of large businesses and city contractors. * Campaign Finance Reform to limit local ballot measure donations. * Downtown as the center of entertainment & shopping, but also revitalizaing neighborhood shopping centers (like Westlake Plaza). * More entertainment options for all ages. * Revisiting the expansion of SMUD into Yolo County. |
