The late John Boyd that the secretary is referring to is the subject of two excellent books: Boyd: the Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War by Robert Coram and The Mind of War by Grant Hammond. The former is a biography and the latter is more of an insight into Boyd's strategic thinking and both discuss Boyd's work on defense spending reform ... I understand that you have read my book, Inside Camp-X and enjoyed it. I have now published the sequel, Dispatches from Camp-X and would like to send you a copy. Please advise how I can do this.

For policy...a note I sent to the general via his FaceBook page:

General McChrystal; I hope that you get what you need to do the job; I also hope that you understand how our operations in Pakistan and Afghanistan are politically linked to getting a national health program for the American people. We have to look ...beyond the Taliban and Al Qaeda... Read More...Gone are the days when the American taxpayer can invest their children and resources without something in return. Gone are the days when America can do for the few at the expense of the many. This is the new matrix of our national security as it will be linked to our economic security and our ability to manage our financial way forward. God Bless you in all your endeavors on behalf of the American people and please not forget who you ultimately serve. - Jim Carder

When Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates tapped Price Floyd to run the Defense Department's public affairs operation, he gave him two basic marching orders: improve the way the department communicates -- especially to young people -- and solicit feedback in the process.

PSYOP is a core capability of Information Operations, one of the primary means for communicating to foreign target audiences. It really just needs a "new name"-such as Military Information Support.

David Brooks wrote a great article about the current situation in Iran, describing the country as being "fragile at the core". I believe this is the same case in North Korea...perhaps they're ripe for change as well? Will be interesting to see what the people's tipping point will end up being over there.
