Robin McKinley Peter was overnight in hospital for scheduled minor surgery but my stress level went off the chart, and Peter is not the world's best patient. (You should be RESTING! --I'm FINE!) Meanwhile I must get on with my PEGASUS readthrough in expectation of my editor's notes on Monday and . . . what is this bizarre story ab...out humans and creatures with wings? I wrote it? I've never seen it before in my life.

I have a mad friend. Well, I have several mad friends.* This particular mad friend is a major goer to concerts of folk and Celtic music, and we bonded a while ago over the fact that Steeleye ...

Robin McKinley PEGASUS went off to my editor on Monday and I'm in that post-book dead space. Except that it's not dead space-I'm taking this week off, but next Monday I sit down with a large pile of pages and a red pen and read it again from page one. Reading it in typescript gives me a fresh eye for it, and different things po...p out. I already know there are little inconsistencies-I hope that's the worst I'm going to find!

Robin McKinley The winner of the autographed copies of FIRE and WATER is Mary Kate O'Donnell who wrote: "This would be an excellent time to break my never winning anything streak." Happy to oblige! Mary Kate: please email blogmom@robinmckinleysblog.com.

Robin McKinley School Library Journal: "In this companion to WATER, McKinley and Dickinson explore the range of their storytelling abilities. The settings of these five tales range from ancient to modern, but they are all united by encounters with magical creatures with an affinity for fire...This collection of beautifully crafted tal...es will find a warm welcome from fans of either author, as well as from fantasy readers in general."

Robin McKinley Booklist writes about FIRE (1 September): "McKinley and Dickinson follow up their previous collaborative work, WATER: TALES OF ELEMENTAL SPIRITS with this collection. . . . Dickinson's stories are told with a storyteller's cadence while McKinley's are modern and humorous, but all five are masterful in character, setting, and plot."

Robin McKinley One of the supernumerary problems with PEGASUS is that it's PEGASUS I to be followed, I hope, by PEGASUS II (although that won't be its title) next year at around this time. Which might mean PEG II made it into publication for autumn 2011. Don’t hold your breath however; I’ve been writing faster the last few years than previously, but not that fast.

This just in from my editor! "I wanted to let you know that we will be doing a blast to all the bookstores promoting FIRE and the new edition of WATER, with the fabulous* new material. That will go out either this week or next. We will also be doing a Skyscraper ad on PW DAILY that is an email that goes to EVERYBODY i...n the business – bookstores, librarians, publishers, etc. That will be impossible to miss. That will happen on or around 11/30." More at http://robinmckinleysblog.com/2009/11/06 /bells-and-whistles/

Robin McKinley The final rewrites on PEGASUS are due in less than a fortnight and as a result I'm even more wound up and nuts than I am ordinarily. (Which is pretty wound up and nuts. If you dont believe me, read my blog.) If I miss this deadline, PEGASUS loses any chance to come out autumn 2010.

And I do think it’s a good book. And I do think Peter and I have written some pretty nifty stories for it (five, to be precise). I even think the jacket art is pretty cool.** But we’re having ...
