This block represents the artist's Scottish heritage. The log-cabin pattern represents the popular pattern of the 1890's when her mother moved to Minnesota. The knots represent her family's ties to Scotland and their new ties to Minnesota.

Rochester Public Library Helen Chen was born in Taiwan and has lived in Rochester with her husband for 20 years. She has won prizes in several writing contests.
She will be presenting from her recently released book, Jin-Ling’s Two Left Feet. It tells a story of Jin-Ling, a Chinese- American teen who struggles with clashing cultural expectations while searching for her own sense of identity.
