The Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project is dedicated to the creation of a separate recreational sleddog breed descended from the dogs of Leonhard Seppala and from new Siberia imports. Started in 1990, in 1997 it secured recognition from Agriculture Canada for the new "evolving breed" under the Animal Pedigree Act. It continues to direct the growth and development of the breed population in Canada and worldwide.
