Jenny Vanderlip Kenwell is going to join the 10K running clinic in Hamilton in January, looking to do the half clinic after that. Signed up for my first half marathon in Dec of 2010, might try the Scotia Bank Half first to see how well I can cope! Need to lose about 15lbs and yet keep up my energy....it's gotten me perplexed, when carbs = fuel. Any suggestions?

I've been reading John's Running book, which says not to try and lose weight while training, but I think it would help with my running so much if I were a little lighter, yet I have a hard time keeping up my energy level after I run.

You need the energy after you run. Try to reduce some calories at another time in the day. Sometimes runners over estimate how many calories they are actually burning during thier run and eat too much.

And also be cautious about what carbs you are intaking -- that can make a huge difference

Hey Cheryl, sounds like we are on the same plan!!! I am also thinking of joining the 10K clinic in January and then the half clinic after that and would like to try the Scotia 1/2 in Sept too as preparation for my half in the Cayman Islands for The Arthritis Society in December of 2010. I'm going to be joining in Hamilton, which Running Room will you be joining with?

Catherine I did a Running Room online training program for the half last summer. I already had John Stanton's excellent book, but was very disappointed with the online clinic. The instructors didn't reply to my questions, and their emails were few, far between, and unrelated to the program for the week.

Race day: start out slow, take advantage of those water/gaterade stations (even if you don't think you need to hydrate), and enjoy every mile. . .good luck on your training & race day!!

AWESOME! Make sure you build up your miles nice and steady... I crashed in my 1st marathon towards the end, for my 2nd I did more long training runs (up to a 24 miler 4 weeks before race day) - those gave me the confidence I could do it and I knocked 26mins off my time to qualify for Boston! Big runs huge for confidence... and make sure your nutrition is up to par - replenishright after a run so you are ready to go again next day - I can give you more info if you want!
