Brent Weinbach album release show
with special guests Moshe Kasher, Alex Koll and Laura Weinbach

Join festival favorite Brent Weinbach and his guests for this special live event at which Brent will be performing his new album in its entirety. A year in the making, this is not a tradit...ional standup recording. Rather, The Night Shift is more of a Joe Frank-influenced long-form radio-play comedy concept album — a 64-minute, interwoven mix of in-studio routines replete with Nintendo 8-bit inspired instrumental backing tracks, live club material recorded at The Purple Onion, bent phone messages, interstitial weirdness, and songs. Brent, a former professional piano player, composed and performed all his own instrumental backing tracks for this record and his three original piano/vocals numbers have a surprisingly sweet and melancholy Tin Pan Alley feel to them. It’s safe to say there isn’t another contemporary comedy recording like this one.

A former substitute teacher in East Oakland, Brent began his comedy career in the underground San Francisco scene but now tours all over the United States at clubs, colleges, festivals, theaters, music venues and living rooms. Brent was the recipient of the 2007 Andy Kaufman Award (for innovation in standup comedy) at the HBO Comedy Festival, he’s toured with Patton Oswalt and The Comedians of Comedy, killed at the Coachella and Bumbershoot festivals, crushed it at Just For Laughs in Montreal, and created and starred in the Super Deluxe web series Weinbach in Wonderland. He also has a t-shirt with his name and his face on it.

The Night Shift is being released nationally by Talent Moat on September 15th and will be available through all digital music outlets (I-Tunes, Amazon, et al) and in finer brick-and-mortar retail shoppes.

Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske comprise the five-member filmmaking comedy group Broken Lizard. They followed up with the independently-financed, cult-hit Super Troopers and the horror-comedy Club Dread. In 2005, the group co-wrote and acted in the film remake of the popular 70’s television series The Dukes of Hazzard, directed by Chandrasekhar, and in 2006 released Beerfest. They recently finished their next film, The Slammin’ Salmon and are in post production on a film they produced with Counting Crows front man Adam Duritz, titled Freeloaders.

SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival

SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival SF Sketchfest is pleased to co-present In the Loop directed by Armando Iannucci, at the 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival - April 23 to May 7, 2009.

Armando Iannucci's hilariously snide satirical farce, In the Loop, takes aim at the "secret" buildup to the current war in Iraq, with government political hac...ks and fixers in London and Washington scurrying to control leaks and loonies, jockeying for position and delivering blistering putdowns, mostly to subordinates. As Iannucci's madcap satirical farce plays out, we meet hundreds of loathsome people in the bowels of power, notably a Pentagon brass monkey, a State Department warhawk, a bewildered rookie political fixer and at least two Lady-Macbeths-in-waiting, one Brit and one Yank -plus too many bootlickers to accurately count. Of course, the ghosts of G.W. Bush and Tony Blair make their presence felt in every gesture and nervous laugh. -Kelly Vance Starring Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander, James Gandolfini, Gina McKee, David Rasche, Anna Chlumsky and Steve Coogan.

The film screens on April 28 at 9:30PM and May 2 at 9:30PM at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas.

SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival Kasper Hauser in performance and conversation
SF Sketchfest is proud to welcome festival favorites Kasper Hauser to Cobb's Comedy Club for a special one-night-only show celebrating the release of their new book, Weddings of the Times. The evening will start with a live sketch performance and book preview from the group,... followed by a Q&A and book signing. The Q&A will be moderated by Beth Lisick, a frequent festival performer and celebrated author of Everybody Into The Pool and Helping Me Help Myself.

About the book: In their latest book, Kasper Hauser does for the New York Times wedding pages what SkyMaul did for in-flight catalogues -- it takes the genre to "new levels of absurdity" (The Village Voice).

"In this collection, Kasper Hauser reminds us that a wedding announcement is a window into the most goofball daydream a couple can have about itself.... These are not parodies, but little human stories, full of want and hope, even when they involve falconry."
--from the foreword by John Hodgman

Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, and Patients
Live performance of Comedy Central’s animated series

Special guests include patients Todd Barry and Bob Odenkirk, and Dr. Katz's receptionist, Laura Silverman.

The debut of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist on Comedy Central in 19...95 marked the beginning of a new era of adult animated series. The show ran from 1995 - 1999 and featured the animated alter ego of comedian Dr. Jonathan Katz, who voiced the character on the show. Dr. Katz psychoanalyzed famous celebrities and other comedians. Ben Katz, the doctor's deadbeat adult son, lived with him on the show and acted as a negative foil to Dr. Katz's good intentions and mild-mannered ways. Katz and the other characters improvised much of the show's dry, sardonic dialogue. The unique look of the cartoon came from crude-looking computer animation dubbed "Squigglevision" because constantly moving lines formed the outline of characters. The characters in Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist were drawn in vivid color against a typically static background in grayscale. Dr. Jonathan Katz has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, in comic strip form with the Los Angles Times syndicate, and in numerous live versions of the show including many of the actors and other celebrities who appeared in animated form during the television series. Note: Special guest patients will be announced at a later date.

Stand Uppity with Eugene Mirman, Marc Maron and Andy Kindler
Comedy That Makes You Feel Better About Yourself, and Superior To Others

What is Stand Uppity, you don't ask? A comedy tour featuring Eugene Mirman, Marc Maron, and Andy Kindler, three irreverent, smart...-alecky, comedians, known for having points of view. Do you know who else has a point of view? Everyone. But their point of view is very funny. That's why you should pay to listen to it. When history looks back at itself and wonders what comedy tour helped America move on from it's partisan bickering, botched war, and economic downturn, it will be easy: Stand Uppity!
