SLC Brown Berets New Blog Post: - The Brown Berets have posted a new blog entry with a direct response to Utah state legislators.

The Autonomous Chapter of the Salt Lake City Brown Berets recognizes that historically during times of turmoil and economic struggle, immigrants have been used as a scapegoat to try to explain and resolve issues. We deplore and condemn the fact that our legislators and representatives are failing to...

SLC Brown Berets My thoughts about todays news conference: Luz Robles's toughest supporters were thrown under the bus. I feel bad that I messaged y'all to come out an support just to be told you acted inappropriately towards Sandstrom. Sandstrom is not the person supporting Luz Robles for re-election, the people are....y'all that showed up are.

Politics needs to be erased in the name of the people. We weren't attempting to antagonize Sandstrom we were voicing our support for the people affected by his extreme legislation and demonstrating our opposition to what he is attempting t...o do. What does everyone want? To be silent? To enable this extreme movement that affects peoples chances at basic survival and happiness is REPULSIVE. There is absolutely no logic that can quantify what he is doing or what any other elected official is doing. THIS AFFECTS REAL PEOPLE, FAMILIES, CHILDREN. It's not about us. It's not about us. I'm all about peace, but I can't enjoy any type of peace unless I know others have the same. See More

People like Sandstrom and the whole bailiwick of right-wing media mavens benefit from all the negative attention. Then they can play the victim card. The trouble people have nowadays is recognizing power relationships. When a judge who s...trikes down an unconstitutional initiative is called a "lynch mob"" by the lynch mob, or a civil rights leader is called a "racist" by the racists, it stands to reason that people are a bit confused. It's Orwellian manipulation of language. Since corporations are accorded the same rights as flesh-and-blood individuals by the courts, with the advantages of immortality and billions in assets, are people able to recognize who the real bullies are anymore?See More

    • Stewart Thorpe Ⓥ The most obnoxious part is when he admits that NAFTA led to extreme impoverishment of Mexican farmers and caused a massive increase in undocumented immigration. And yet he also admits he nor any bill he proposes does anything against NAFTA.

SLC Brown Berets We have listened to the representatives voice their opinion. Now we are demanding that they listen to the people, and what the people have to say about options, solutions, and problems in this complex immigration issue.

Help our voice be heard by joining us, various organizations and members of the community on August 1...9th At the Centro Civico Mexicano, (155 South 600 West) as we discuss what is important for us, and so that our voice and our point of view is acknowledged in this immigration debate.

A group of community members including Peggy Wilson, Archie Archuleta, Frank Cordova, Michael Picardi are helping organize the event. We are working together to invite concerned citizens, legislators and religious representatives to come together to collaborate and find a solution.

Feel free to contact us for any ideas, questions or concerns.

SLC Brown Berets This column by journalist Michelle Rogers was in this past Sunday's paper. It was unnecessary to run this article as the last incident occurring was 2 years ago. Running a story such as this is a divisive move in times like these when what we need most is collaboration among differing communities. Write her, to expr...ess, your concern regarding this column, mrogers@sltrib.com remember silence only serves to enable a flawed system!!! ♥

This article is a bit misleading on line. It is actaully a side bar to a bigger story about a gang member leaving the gang. When you see it in print the context makes sense. When you read the storyon line -look at RELATED STORIES - It is a ...story about Julian leaving a gang.

This reporter is extremely fair and balanced and is has always been intrested in getting out the community's side of the story.

Here is the link to the featured story of which the link above is connected to.

SLC Brown Berets We would like to encourage y'all to take some time to write this reporter (drop her an email at mrogers@sltrib.com) and complain about the article that she wrote (check the link below). What is the purpose of such an article? What is the importance of it? What kind of image does this portray Latino's in during a time w...hen the immigration debate is big? Why would she fuel the fire and the hatred with such a careless article?
