The SPSS Philippines Users Group (SUG Philippines) is an association of SPSS users in the Philippines. It is run by SPSS users, for SPSS users. The mission is to provide a common platform for discussion and exchange of information, views and experiences about the different applications of SPSS.
A Christmas Party for SP...SS User's in the Philippines will be held on December 11, 2009 at Robinson's Place, Padre Faura Manila, 6:00 pm. The new batch of SUG Officer's will be elected that day.

The 2009 SPSS Discovery Convention was held last October 22 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel. Organized by the Asia Pacific Centre for Research Inc., the said convention was attended by over 120 participants from different sectors. Participants include lecturers, counselors and practitioners, statisticians, manage...rs, directors, IT personnels and staffs from the academe, private sectors, commercial industries and government agencies.
The program started at 8 o’clock in the morning as the participants lined up for the registration. The keynote speech was delivered by no other than Asia-Pacific Centre for Research's President and CEO, Dr. Nick Fontanilla. Guest Speakers from the Philippine National Police - Program Management Office led by Colonel Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Chief Executive Officer shared the 2008 PNP Transformation Program. A survey geared towards the evaluation of the performance and attitudes toward the Philippine National Police as Evaluated by 2,000 Respondents.
This was followed by technical presentations by SPSS Users. The morning presentations were delivered by Mr. Nicco de Jesus of Group M and Ronaldo Milagroso of the University of Regina Carmeli. The afternoon session included presentations by Mr. Winecito Tan of the Central Bank of the Philippines, Mr. Ryan Descallar of UP Population Institute, Ms. Rubie Herrera of the Far Eastern University and Mr. Johnny Amora from the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde.
Mr. Ronan Santos, pro tem President of the SPSS User's Group in the Philippines also announced the reactivation of the User's group and invited everyone to join and be active in the organization. A Meet and Greet party for candidate officers will be held on November 13, 2009 at Max's Restaurant Greenbelt 1.
Two SPSS Base Licenses were raffled at the end of the convention. Mr. Aldrich Salen of Meralco and Ms. Norie Lolong of the Polytechnic University won the prizes respectively. Newspapers were provided by the convention’s Media Partner, Business World. Online advertisements were sponsored by JobsDb.
SPSS PH A seminar for Academic Institutions was held last July 27, 2009 at the University of the Assumption in San Fernando City, Pampanga. Quite a number of schools from Region 3 were present in the said event. The program started at 8 o'clock in the morning with an introduction to PASW by Mark Tiangson, Asia Pacific Centre f...or Research's (ACRE) Account executive. Ryan Aga, ACRE's Consultant gave a demo on PASW and Text Analysis.
SPSS PH Last July 23, the Asia Pacific Centre for Research launched a seminar entitled Predict Tomorrow Today with Predictive Analytics. The said seminar was geared towards introducing Predictive Analytics to commercial enterprises to give them a competitive advantage in their respective fields. The event was held at the Caser...oom, RCBC Plaza Makati. A total of 47 participants from over 29 different industries attended the said seminar. These industries ranges from telecommunication, banking and finance, insurance, pharmaceuticals and communication industries. THe guest speaker is Ms. Marianne Grace Badillo from the Manila Electric Company. She talked about Meralco's Fraud Detection Pilot Study 2006. The objective of this presentation is to show the capability and advantages of SPSS in detecting the possibility of commiting fraud.

SPSS PH Last June 25 (Thursday), a small group of government agencies participated in the SPSS seminar entitled “Effective Statistics in Government”, held at the Learning Institute of Waltermart Makati. The event illustrated and emphasized the importance of statistical analysis applicable to government agencies – research, pro...gram evaluation, reporting, crime detection and other forms of effective governance. Our guest speaker was Mr. Gerardo “Jay” Sandoval, Deputy Director of the Social Weather Stations. He discussed how SPSS is used in SWS, and presented some of their research outputs.

SPSS PH Last June 11, Thursday, ACRE conducted its first seminar in Naga City, the heart of the Bicol region. About 20 participants from 8 schools attended this event which was held at the Instructional Media Center at the University of Nueva Caceres, the first university in the Bicol region. PASW Statistics and PASW Data Coll...ection families were introduced by Krystel Cruz and Mark Tiangson.
SPSS PH With the continuing mission of driving the widespread use of analytics in decision-making, ACRE conducted a seminar entitled THE ROAD TO SUCCESS WITH SPSS which was successfully held in Ortigas Building last October 2, 2008. 48 participants from 16 schools and 2 research companies attended the said event. The topics di...scussed were SPSS Solution Overview, Sneak Preview of SPSS 17, Questionnaire Design Using SPSS Data Entry, SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys and Data Mining Applications in Higher Education.

Around 100 clients, partners and guests from different schools, government agencies, non-government organizations and commercial companies took part in this significant event held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Mr. Mychal Fontanilla, Vice-President of ACRE, Inc., gave an inspirational welcome to all the participants. Dr.... Nick Fontanilla, President of ACRE, Inc., presented how number-crunching and data mining has become a global trend in decision-making.
There were three clients who shared their knowledge and expertise in the field of analytics. Ms. Wilma Molano of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute presented her paper on The Nutrition Situation in the Philippines. Dr. Purba Rao from Asian Institute of Management presented a detailed discussion on Predictive Modeling. And Mr. Johnny Amora from the College of Saint Benilde, gave a lecture on Structural Equation Modeling. Also, Ms. Maiet Biliran, Research Director of ACRE, Inc., provided a brief overview of Micro-targeting, a timely and relevant topic which can be used for campaign election management.

Last February 26, 2009 a seminar for the academe was organized. The audience included 34 participants from 16 different schools which was held at 5th Floor Waltermart Learning Center, Makati City.
Mr. Mark Anthony Tiangson, the SPSS Account Executive handling the academic accounts including private and public schools i...n the Philippines, discussed an overview of the SPSS analytic solutions. Ms. Krystel Cruz, also an Account Executive of SPSS who handles government and NGO accounts, discussed the new features of SPSS version 17.0. SPSS Viz Designer, a new standalone product of SPSS Inc., was introduced by Mr. Ralph Robert Hemedez, the Programmer and Consultant of SPSS. The last speaker which is Mr. Ryan Aga, an Account Manager, discussed several case studies using the different modules of SPSS.
