Jetinder

Jetinder Apart from Concorde the SR71 was the fastest long range plane ever made. It was brilliant :-), in the 1960s its a pity US government chose Boeing instead of Lockheed to build their version of Concorde.... If Lockheed had been chosen USA would have had thier version of Concorde.

The SR-71 evolved from the A-12. A really good book on the subject is Skunk Works by Ben R. Rich. Kelly Johnson designed the aircraft, but Ben is the guy who made it go fast.
The most fascinated part to me was the YF-12a. This aircraft had the ability to shred the air defenses of North Vietnam, both fighter and SAMS,but was canceled. A clear lack of vision from our top leadership at the time.

The Lockheed SR-71 was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft by the Lockheed Skunk Works. The SR-71 was unofficially named the Blackbird, and called the Habu by its crews. ...

Dan's products are FABULOUS!!!! He made a great wedding band for me and a beautiful bracelet for my wife from 972. Besides, you can't this type of history anywhere...and from a great person that actually worked on both the SR's and the U-2's for many years.

The trainer, farthest from the camera is 981 sr-71C ( rear end was 934, the first YF-12A, and the front was from a wrecked SR), 956, SR-71B, was down at Palmdale, completeing reseal, etc. I was at Beale for over 2 years and never saw it move, not once. I do remember taking a few parts off it for a different aircraft. It was neat to seethem lined up like this, but sad just the same because of what was happening.
