NOTE FROM SERG: I send you this email informing you about a grave injustice that is currently taking place against a fellow brother & colleague, Alex Sanchez. Alex is an international peace activist and gang prevention intervention specialist who founded Homies Unidos in Los Angeles California. He is a FORMER M.S.13 member (I stress former) who has risked his life repeatedly urging our youth to stop the genocide that claims thousands of lives on a yearly basis - gang life. In doing so he has made enemies, by way of the streets, but unfortunately also by way of a few overzealous law enforcement officials who seek to discredit prevention/intervention as the leading cost effective means of combating gangs and gang violence.

In June 2009, Alex was arrested with 23 “alleged” MS-13 gang members in a massive federal sweep. They are alleging Alex was still involved in MS-13, and was a leader who was still directing MS-13. I know this to be false.

Since June, 2.5 Million dollars was raised for bail although the judge on the case denied it. Most of the evidence is by way of wire taps in which the federal government has put forth gang experts from the L.A.P.D. “translating” what is being stated on the wire taps. The judge has denied the defense the opportunity to produce its own expert witnesses such as internationally known gang prevention/intervention expert Father Gregory Boyle who refutes the government’s assertions, as do other experts. ... This Sunday, December 13, 2009 @ 11AM, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will be attending service at Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 189 Babylon Turnpike, Roosevelt, New York 11575. A group of supporters of the national “WE ARE ALEX” campaign, will be meeting at the Roosevelt Western Beef on the corner of Mollineaux Street & Nassau Road @ 9:30 AM sharp where we will have a series of speakers including Professors, Peace Activists, and others.

We will march down to Memorial Presbyterian and hold up signs urging U.S. Attorney General Holder to please make sure the U.S. Department of Justice provides Alex Sanchez his right to a fair and impartial trial. This is not a protest, we will not disrupt the service, or his speech. I have spoken with Reverend Reginald Tuggle, have communicated our action to him, and have made it clear that this is not a protest against the Attorney General, or the Obama Administration. We are merely seeking the opportunity to let justice take its course.

Alex Sanchez has twice come to our area on the calling of S.T.R.O.N.G., free of charge, in an effort to assist us in reducing the level of violence in our community. He has done so because our mission of non violence is in line with the work he has dedicated his life to. He criticizes a government that claims to have few resources for our youth who desperately need them, but are all to eager to provide the resources to incarcerate them. Tomorrow morning join us as we tell A.G. Holder that “WE ARE ALEX,” from L.A. to L.I. We demand justice. Because Due Process is a Right!
