American River College Library A student just walked by me holding what looked like a huge (imagine a viking-sized portion) chunk of meat (maybe a pork chop?) which had several bites out of it, in his hand. We can overlook some discreet eating of snacks, but no one wants to use the computer or a book after you've been using it while eating meat with your hands.

American River College Library In a rather mavericky move, Slate has created a hilarious index to Sarah Palin's new book.

When Sarah Palin's 413-page autobiography, Going Rogue: An American Life, hit stands Tuesday, readers discovered the governor's most mavericky move yet: The book lacks an index. So Slate has compiled its own. Just print out this index, paste it into the ba

Carol Thais

Carol Thais Hello, I was just wondering if I could shadow one of the librarians. I am thinking of working in a library once I graduate, and I would like to see what it's like.

American River College Library ARC faculty and staff, I'd love your input on this: Would you be more likely to check stuff out of the library if we delivered items to you through interoffice mail? If you didn't actually ever have to come to the library? Thanks!

American River College Library Just found a very intriguing article in one of the databases titled "Casual Sex." From the abstract: "This essay explores the homosocial world of hobos, tramps, 'casual labourers' and other itinerant workers in early twentieth-century North America." It's not full-text, so we'd need to order it via interlibrary loan. W...ho else wants a a copy? Or am I the only one researching hobosexuality?

American River College Library Initially excited to hear that the authors of Freakonomics have a new book coming out. Disappointed to learn about the type of research upon which the authors rely to hype the notion of global cooling: "Levitt said he did not do any statistical analysis of temperatures, but 'eyeballed' the numbers and noticed 2005 was ...hotter than the last couple of years."
