People Reaching Out Happy Red Ribbon Week! The continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons started in 1985 as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs after the murder of DEA Agent Kiki Camarena by drug traffickers. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign (october 23-31) is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a Drug-Free America. People Reaching Out is celebrating "Lights on After School" tomorrow, October 22, by attending an event on the south steps of the Capitol with other organizations. Come by, say hi and show your support. Students involvement during the critical after school hours is part of one strategy to keep kids safe from underage drug and alcohol use.

Students in the Valley Hi Students Reaching Out (SRO) program created the Choose Your Way anti-marijuana social marketing piece to use with middle and high school youth to identify what prevents them from using weed.

People Reaching Out has started "mentee" training this week at most of the school sites. Last week, during "mentor" training we had 70 high school students show up unexpectedly at Kennedy High School! Wow!
