United Way of St. Johns County
Are you ready to become a citizen of ServiceNation?
United Way has a deep history in volunteer engagement and LIVE UNITED champions the idea that, through volunteering and service, we can all help to tackle the problems facing our communities.
As part of our commitment to volunteerism United Way of America has joined S...erviceNation, which is bringing together citizens, leaders and more than 100 organizations to rally behind a vision that celebrates America's great tradition of voluntary citizen service, and honors the profound sacrifices made by so many Americans who have passed before.
The ServiceNation campaign kicks off with a national summit Sept. 11-12, in New York City. On September 27 ServiceNation will stage a nationwide Day Of Action (very similar to our own held on June 21), with hundreds of events across America celebrating the power and potential of voluntary citizen service. A July 28 Time Magazine article praises ServiceNation and announces a commitment to, "helping to lead a major push to make national service a priority in Washington."
On the evening of September 11 the Summit will open with a presidential candidates’ forum on citizenship and service. We know that Senator John McCain has agreed to participate, and we are hoping Senator Obama will agree to attend as well.
ServiceNation truly has the potential to transform our nation, and United Way of America is committed to helping drive this campaign. But we can't succeed without your help and your involvement.
As a first step, you can help to let our leaders know that we are ready to become a ServiceNation by taking the service poll, and submitting a question to be asked at the Sept. 11 presidential candidates’ forum. (To inspire you, ServiceNation will select up to five of the best questions and offer the authors a ticket to the event!)
I hope that you are as excited by the potential for ServiceNation as we are, and that you will join us in this bold campaign. Living united means being a part of the change.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mei Cobb.
Many thanks!
Michael
