Schooner FAME of Salem Our thoughts are with the laid-off crew of VIRGINIA, whom we were rafted up to at this year's Gloucester Schooner Festival.

hamptonroads.com
NORFOLK Schooner Virginia, the 122-foot wooden sailboat built on the waterfront here five years ago, is halting operations because of money problems - at least for now. About 15 people, including the ship's crew and two captains, will be laid off, said

Schooner FAME of Salem Read in the Boston Globe today that FRIENDSHIP is a schooner! If both the Salem Evening News and the Globe agree on this, then maybe WE'RE the ones who are wrong!

Schooner FAME of Salem
As all of FRIENDSHIP's many friends are aware, Salem's Tall Ship has been in Maine for the last six months. A trip to the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard for routine maintenance turned into a much bigger project than anticipated. Join us at 7 p.m., Nov. 4, at St. Joseph Hall, 160 Derby St., Salem, to see slides and hear stories about the ongoing work. We'... See Morell also get an update on the certification process as well as a sneak preview of FRIENDSHIP's schedule for 2010.

This free lecture is sponsored jointly by FAME and by the National Park Service. Light refreshments are served. The Hall is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 978-729-7600 or 978-740-1660.

Astrid. I did NOT get to see the beautiful FAME. I wanted to visit in Gloucester. It is anchored in Salem, not too far from Gloucester. I'd hoped my step-son Greg would go up with me but I only saw him one brief evening. They are all very busy in their work lives in Massachusetts. Next time, I will go alone and see FAME and send you photos.
