Salzburg Global Seminar Help working group members from our session "Performing Arts in Lean Times" by commenting on their group report: Technology and the Creative Process.

www.artsjournal.com
"We've been discussing broad trends, challenges, and opportunities among a global group to unbundle what we know about the arts ecology, and to consider how that ecology might need to adapt or evolve with all the changes in store -- technological, cultural, economic, demographic, and on and on."

One way to spark the economy is to rid ourselves of the nonsense of the discredited "global warming." Just Google "climategate" to get started reading what your governments don't want you to read.

Jing Ulrich I enjoyed being a faculty member at the Salzburg Global Seminar and sharing candid dialogue with participants from 50 countries. The splendor of the Schloss Leopoldskron is truly memorable.

Salzburg Global Seminar Thank you to Fellow Anthony Stepney for his call to action! The Seminar certainly isn't a first responder like the Red Cross, but what ways would Fellows suggest responding? One way could certainly be supporting an aid agency on the ground. To start us off, here are some recommendations from the BBC.

In the UK the DEC - an umbrella group which launches and co-ordinates responses to major disasters overseas - has launched a Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

I realize that it would some work initially, but with our Fellows all across the globe, and with many deeply involved in various NGOs, I'm sure we could develop a list of key, reputable agencies that we could maintain some ties to so that, in the event of the next emergency, we can quickly put a call out to the Fellows and connect them with the best agency for the situation.

As a quick update: We've not got a large number of Fellows in Haiti, but we're asking those we do know there if there is anything we logistically can do for them. We'll let you know when we hear more.

Anthony G Stepney I am devastated by the news in Haiti! I hope that we, the Salzburg Global Seminar community, can do something substantive to support our colleagues and the people of Haiti. We can make a difference!

I did get through via email to one of our Fellows, Foblas Joseph, in Haiti via email. He's working to try to cover some of the extreme healthcare needs there at the moment but didn't yet have a specific way that we could help. He promised to keep in touch as best he could, however.

In the meantime, in conversations with other colleagues at the SGS... See More, we'd recommend making sure your donations to groups such as the Red Cross, Medicin san Frontieres, UNICEF, and others are UNRESTRICTED donations. These allow for funds to be used not only in the immediate aftermath of this crisis but also in the months to come. As crass as it sounds, past catastrophes show that in the weeks and months to come the world's attention and media time will eventually move on to other topics, but help will be needed for more than just the short term. In supporting these groups with UNRESTRICTED donations you allow them to continue work in Haiti even after the immediate crisis response ends. This also allows these first-response groups to be strong when the next crisis hits.
