In its sixth year, The San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival is an international showcase of the world’s premier wine and spirit’s producers, chefs and culinary personalities. Produced by World of Wine Events, the event benefits the American Institute of Wine & Food culinary arts scholarship program.

A world-class wine and culinary extravaganza, the five-day festival joins tastemakers from all aspects of the food and wine industry: Celebrity chefs, sommeliers and master sommeliers, wine buyers and retailers; 170 winemakers, spirit companies and breweries; 70 local culinary artisans and their fine dining restaurants; 30 gourmet companies; media, personalities and more.

The 6th Annual San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival will be held November 18-22, 2009. The Festival will feature:

•VIP Kick-Off Party
Held in 2008 at the W Hotel, the party was hosted by Tommy Bahama Rum and featured the largest gathering of San Diego’s celebrity chefs in the year.

•Winetasting Seminars
The Festival’s Winetasting Seminars take place on Thursday and Friday prior to the Grand Tasting Event. The series of classes range in topics from Napa AVA panel discussions to comparisons between Old World and New World wines.

•Cooking Classes
From nationally recognized celebrity chefs to local culinary stars, classes take place on Thursday and Friday prior to the Grand Tasting Event.

•WineRave
Held at a popular nightclub in downtown San Diego this event caters to the 21-35 year-old crowd and features cutting edge wines and spirits. The event is designed to create an hip tasting experience for a collective of up-and-coming wine and spirits consumers.

•Celebrity Chef Luncheon & AIWF Live Auction
The AIWF Celebrity Chef Luncheon & Big Bottle Auction features 15 celebrity winemakers and a world-class menu prepared by nationally acclaimed chefs. Proceeds from the event’s auctions benefit The American Institute of Wine & Food Culinary and Enology Scholarship program.

•Reserve & New Release Tasting
An elegant tasting event on Friday night of the Festival featuring close to 200 reserve and new release wines and spirits. The event sells out to a crowd of 800 attendees.

•Grand Tasting
The Grand Finale, held on San Diego’s Embarcadero Park North, features 170 winemakers, spirits and breweries, 70 of San Diego’s top fine dining restaurants, 30 gourmet food companies, celebrity chef book signing tent, olive oil competition and tasting tent, music stages, a backdrop of sailboats and the magnificent San Diego shoreline.

•“Chef of the Fest” Competition
70 of the city’s top chefs compete for just over $50,000 in cash and prizes and the coveted title of “Chef of the Fest”. The “Chef of the Fest” winner will return to the Annual San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival the next year as one of the headlining chefs.

The 2008 San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival was a tremendous success, bringing in an attendance of over 8,000 individuals over the five-day event. Foodies, winemakers, and chefs from all over the country converged in San Diego to take part in the festivities, selling out events all week.

Proceeds from the event’s live and silent auctions benefit the American Institute of Wine & Food culinary and enology scholarships for students and professionals in San Diego. This past festival raised over $30,000 for the AIWF scholarship program, resulting in the award of seven educational scholarships.

Festival Statistics:
•Over 8,000 wine and food aficionados will attend the five-day festival for 2009

•Anticipated attendance for the 2009 event is estimated at 8,000 - 8,500 attendees throughout the week

•170 wineries and winemakers will take part in the Reserve Tasting and Grand Event in 2009

•Over 800 different types of wines will be poured at the Reserve Tasting and Grand Events

•70 of San Diego’s top fine dining restaurants and celebrated chefs will participate in the Grand Tasting

•30 Gourmet food companies will launch new products at the 2009 Festival

•Celebrity chefs and James Beard award winners such as Patrice Olivan from the French Embassy; Chef Gavin Kaysen of Cafe Boulud, Chef Bernard Guillas of the Marine Room and Chef Sandra Bernstein of The Girl & The Fig; cookbook authors Laura Werlin and Ted Allen; Chef Bob Kinkead and others are flown in to lead a line-up of exciting and informative cooking demonstrations

•Master Sommeliers Joe Spellman and Evan Goldstein have led the panel of distinguished moderators of our wine tasting classes and seminars and made presentations from our Festival’s main stage

•30.3% of attendees are from out of county. This total does not include the hundreds of exhibitors that fly in for the event from outside of the market

•To date, over $100,000 has been awarded to AIWF who in turn fund deserving students from proceeds raised at auctions during the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival.

•Ranked by Biz Bash Magazine as one of the top culinary events in the region
