The USS Makin Island is the newest ship in the fleet and the first to use hybrid technology --earning it the nickname the 'Prius' of the Navy.
USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8) ESPN and ABC were onboard MKI last night filming. Numerous crewmembers and the ship got on camera. I'm told some of the footage will be shown tonight at the Poinsettia Bowl Game and some at the Holiday Bowl game. Also, 200 of MAKIN ISLAND's family will be at the game tonight, so keep an eye out for them!
