Dia de los Muertos is a family-centered celebration in Mexico and Central America that honors and remembers deceased loved ones. The souls of the departed are believed to return to visit the living each year between October 31 and November 2. During this time, families clean and decorate the gravesites, construct ofren...das, join together for feasting, and create artistic representations of the dead. By recognizing death as part of life, and laughing at it, this festival strengthens family and community ties.Read More

Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
In the November municipal elections, Santa Barbarans will vote on Measure B, a proposal to amend the City Charter and reduce maximum allowable building heights to 40 feet in the historic core and 45 feet elsewhere in the city. Prominent politicians and community leaders are arrayed on both sides. Its success or failure... will have lasting effects on our community. At stake are concerns over the historic image and life style of Santa Barbara as a charming Spanish Mediterranean village, questions of urban density and suburban sprawl, issues of local and regional planning, problems of transportation and energy—all concerns of great environmental importance. This Town Hall Forum features a panel of speakers including both advocates and opponents of Measure B, as well as unaffiliated experts on regional planning and environmental management. Admission is free, and audience members are invited to question panelists in a lively format designed to generate light rather than heat. For more information call 805-682-4711 ext. 170.

John Kitchener

John Kitchener I love this place! Went here many times as a child and plan to visit soon. My most amazing memory of the Museum was standing in front of the seismograph and a quake happened - it was wild to first hear the rumble, feel it then see it happen across the print drum. I love you and miss you Santa Barbara!
