The Dickens Project Thank you thank you thank you to the over 200 people who attended the Dickens Universe and had a great time. Everyone seemed so happy! We also raised some serious money because of the generosity of our "folks." It was a fun and fabulous week. Next year we're doing it all again with Oliver Twist and Sketches By Boz. Mar...k your calendars for the first week in August.

I've also forwarded to colleagues on several lists. I know that UCSC donation page well--Shakespeare Santa Cruz nearly went belly up six months ago. Same scenario.

Dad read Dickens aloud to my brother and me as kids, and as an adult I have read almost all of Dickens--I had to skip over large tedious passages in Bleak House but otherwise I read the novels cover to cover!
I never fail to cry when I reread them. Such a sad world for children to be in, then as now, and Dickens describes it so eloquently.
