This exhibition features new work by veteran gallery artist and oil painter Ruth Dwyer. Dwyer utilizes intense, saturated color to represent the abstracted and modern landscapes with a concen...tration on the corners of the planet that are remote and mesmerizing. Dwyer paints from her travels to exotic places, for instance, the haunting open spaces of Nunavut and the Arctic. Dwyer’s use of oil color seems to breathe and have a complexity and clarity that no other medium can achieve.

This lecture is by gallery artist and acrylic painter Carolyn Ritter and is the fourth in a series of lectures and demonstrations scheduled throughout the 2009 – 2010 season. Carolyn Ritter will discuss her transformation in the approach of painting wher...e she began to concern herself with the process rather than the outcome, and where she could begin to watch the painting unfold. Ritter will let us in on her discovery of painting where playing is more important than planning, reaction more important than action, and emotion more important than intellect. Join the Katharine Butler Gallery and Carolyn Ritter for this lecture, share her journey- her notes from a lifetime of painting and the miles and miles of canvas it took to find herself, and to develop her own style. The lecture is free and open to the public; however reservations are required. A reception for the artist will follow the lecture.
