Alfred Z. Solomon Residency: “Gender Studies and Art History”
October 28-30, 2009
Titled “Gender Studies and Art History,” the three-day residency will include two lectures and a panel discussion that are free and open to the public. The events will take place in the museum’s Payne Presentation Room, and will feature two…… distinguished art historians whose research interests are drawn from different continents and centuries. Henry Drewal, the Evjue-Bascom Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, researches the African water spirit known as Mami Wata (pidgin English for “Mother Water”). Patricia Simons, an associate professor in History of Art/Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan, explores representations of masculinity in the art of Renaissance Italy.

Come out and graffiti up some HATS. We supply the hats to graffiti on!!!!!!!!!! But you can also bring your own stuff to graffiti (t-shirts, sneakers, notebooks, teddy bears, yourself, whatever floats your boat)!

A native of the Capital District, Jill Hughes has been performing for most of her life. Her singing career began in her grandfather’s church at the age of five. By sixteen, she became a lead singer with a high school garage band, which went on to perform in several prominent venues, including the Hullaballou and J.B. S……cott’s, where she opened for national touring acts.
A classically trained vocalist who received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Skidmore College, Jill specializes in Jazz and R&B, with roots deep in Gospel.
Jill has headlined at nightspots in New York City such as Birdland, The Five Spot and Manny’s Car Wash. She has also been honored by the Albany/Schenectady League of Arts for her contributions to the local music scene at their annual awards ceremony.
Jill Hughes was also selected as Best Jazz and R&B Vocalist-Female three times by Metroland magazine.
