Save Our State Parks Campaign The National Archives has released this great film from 1935 showing the development of California's state parks during the great depression by members of the civilian conservation Corps. Learn more about the early years of the state park system and the legacy they wanted to leave for future generations....

Parks featured in this video are: California Redwood (2:46), Humboldt Redwood (5:29), Calaveras (7:17), San Jacinto Mountains (7:54), Rubicon (11:18), Prairie Creek (13:14), Big Sur (the video shows both what is now Pfeiffer Big Sur and Julia Pfeiffer Burns state parks) (14:26), Cuyamaca Rancho Sta...

I had an Uncle who was in the CCCamp and it was a life saver. It put many people to work, fed them, bedded them, etc. and parks were OPEN! To close our parks is a slap at the low income and the working class. The wealthy could care less. Uncle Arnold should go back to his home land and run a concentration camp for the poor!!!!

Save Our State Parks Campaign Beaches, mountains, forests, castles. California and Oregon are blessed with hundreds of public treasures. But one state's park are thriving, the other's hurting. Why? Via Magazine published by AAA explains.....

The current situation of state parks in California and Oregon is a study in contrasts.

I used to work for Santa Clara county parks, which are supported by a voter bond. Perhaps this should be done for state parks so other departments of the state don't rob parks of their funding?
I was at DL bliss state park last weekend. Avoiding the crowds this weekend. Be safe and have fun out there!

Save Our State Parks Campaign wants to know: are you going to a state park or beach this weekend? If so- which one??

Save Our State Parks Campaign National parks leaders contend California would violate two laws if it closes state parks.

The federal government has told state lawmakers that if they close state parks as a budget-cutting move, they risk losing key funding meant to support parks.
Daphne at 8:17am July 5
Has anyone heard about Patricks Point closing?

Bruno Mendes
Are we offering alternatives to closing the parks or simply opposing their closing?
I believe we can do better than just the latter.
What about a campaign to get ideas for alternatives (e.g. raising entrance fees?)
Save Our State Parks Campaign at 11:28am July 2
We have been working and lobbying for funding alternatives that would keep state parks open- including advocacting for the State Park Access Pass. On June 26, the State Senate tried to take the State Park Access Pass up for a vote. It failed, because it did not receive the 2/3 vote required. The vote was 22 in favor (all Democrats) 14 opposed (... Read Moreall Republicans + 1 Democrat) and 4 abstentions.
we all need to continue fighting to urge the Legislature to keep state parks open, even if that requires a funding source that isn’t the State Park Access Pass.

Save Our State Parks Campaign Your voices are being heard! On Monday we delivered 1,649 pages of Save Our State Park petitions, which contain more than 29,000 signatures and 2,400 postcards to the Big 5 urging them to keep state parks open!

Gov. Schwarzenegger's attempt to save $70 million by closing scores of state parks met with protests Monday, as park supporters collected the signatures of 29,000 people on petitions demanding that the parks be kept open. The petitions were delivered to legislative leaders.

Schwarzenegger plans to close 220 state parks, even though there's a simple solution. Learn what Californians think...its Judgement Day.

Save Our State Parks Campaign Yesterday, the California State Parks Foundation displayed over 200 pictures that you took during the SOS Weekend in front of the State Capitol. Legislators and staff saw the faces of park users that will be impacted by the closure of 220 state parks.

THAT IS A MISTAKE, BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY VISITORS TO CA. WE WILL LOOSE MONEY DUE TO THAT.

I emailed Senator Runner a few weeks back when I first heard the news. I reminded him that he is an AV resident and that we are a powerful group of voters and would surely be disappoinnted.

Save Our State Parks Campaign Please help us urge the "Big 5" to seek a creative solution that will provide adequate revenue to keep our state parks open and accessible to all Californians.

On Monday, June 24th, the California State Legislature unsuccessfully attempted to pass a state budget. Budget negotiations are now in the hands of the "Big 5"- the Republican and Democratic leaders in both the Assembly and the Senate and the Governor.

Dollie's right. Nothing good will come from closing parks. it will make absolutely no fiscal difference to the budget; the infrastructure will go into worse shape than it already is; poaching will rise and not only game animals but fauna as well. Want some Old Growth Redwood Burl...close the parks then just come and cut it...the sheriff won't ... Read Morestop you, they don't have the time or knowledge of resource laws. the Gov's idea is stupid, ridiculous and irresponsible...

His propositions didn't pass so someone must pay. You didn't expect it to be the rich, did you? No, they just have to enjoy the benefits of paying as little in taxes as humanly possible, go on their vacations to far and exotic places with the money they save while the rest of us just watch our beautiful parks rot. Wait until fire season. I shutter to think what will happen in abandon, unprotected parks in the dry summer heat. You thought fire season was bad the past two years....
