Company Overview:	The Mary River in South East Queensland is under threat. The Queensland government has proposed to build a dam at Traveston Crossing 27km south of Gympie. This project will threaten rare and endangered wildlife including the Mary River Turtle, the Queensland Lungfish and the Mary River Cod as well as having disastrous consequences for the Great Sandy Strait.
Mission:	To save the Mary Valley, and spread the message that dams are old technology and do not work.

The official site of the Save the Mary River Coordinating Group has had a bit of a facelift in preparation for the "Don't Murray the Mary" public awareness campaign led by Steve Posselt. You'll find the site is now a portal to all kinds of online gems, and over the next few weeks there'll be more developments - do keep checking in!

The campaign to Save The Mary River has grown from the initial response coordinated by Mary Valley residents fighting for the future of their river and community to a truly broad-based national and international response. The Queensland and Australian Governments are poised on the brink of making a decision which will either provide a truly reliable and sustainable water strategy for South East Queensland (of which we can all be proud), or one which will inevitably lead to the shameful and entirely avoidable degradation of a globally significant river system and all it sustains.

I recently went to one of my favorite water locations the Coorong in SA and it brought tears to my eyes to see the poor condition it is in. I had my two children with me and it was the first time they saw it what a terrible shame! The Mary River is another of my favorite rivers please don't let them spoil this one too because of abuse of our water resources. Educate the people don't waste water.

even though I do not live in the area I have been to traveston many times to swim I have family friends who live in amamoor. It would be quite upsetting knowing that in the future I cant take my kids to these sorts of places these are historice places specially the mary valley rattler and I have been on it b4. imbil kandanga amamoor dagun. these are all great places and should be left untouched.:)

Can somebody tell me what bedrock will be used as the base for the dam wall? I am yet to see where they dam wall will be located. And also if it is true that much of the dam will be built over porous rock that will not hold water?

The impression that I get is that it will be like a giant evaporating dish sitting on a sieve.

I think that the politician responsible for building this dam should retain naming rights. THE ANNA BLIGH (QLD LABOR PARTY) DAM. Generations to come can pass judgement of their great foresight or their gross stupidity.

This dam can not be allowed to be made. Not only for all the families that it is going to make homeless and the beauty that it is going to destroy but also because it is just a stupid place to build a dam. I drove around the area a few months ago and there are markers to tell where the water would come to. In some places its only 2 meters high, the dam would be a very large surface area and very very shallow. This means that, particularly given the climate of the area being very hot, a lot of water would be lost to evaporation. The dam would be a big waste of money and then continue to be very expensive and inefficient for many years to come.
If we are going to stop this we need to find an alternative site to build a dam. Does anyone have any suggestions?
