Savvy Vegetarian Just made this nut loaf recipe yesterday. With cashew gravy. It's rich & delish - perfect to go with all the traditional trimmings for Thanksgiving or Xmas if you do that. The full recipe makes enough for 10 - 12 people. I made 1/3 and we ate if for two meals.

Savvy Vegetarian Here's what Wikipedia has to say about nutritional yeast - which I've started using in a few recipes recently - I was always a little suspicious of it, but it seems to be good stuff!

Kilde: en.wikipedia.org
Nutritional yeast, similar to brewer's yeast, is a deactivated yeast, usually Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is popular with vegans, who use it as an ingredient in recipes or simply as a condiment. It is ...

Nutritional yeast is fermented, tastes kind of cheesy, melts in sauces and adds a sort of cheesy creaminess and tang, IMHO it needs to combine with spices to really get a cheese flavor: e.g. salt, tamari, paprika, cayenne, pepper, ginger, dry mustard (not all at once!) Good to make vegan mac'n'cheese, lasagna, 'cheese' sauce etc. We use it in tofu quiche:

What can vegans or vegetarians eat on a holiday that is so firmly tied to turkey? And what do you do when you're eating with people who range from carnivore to vegan?

Savvy Vegetarian Just noticed I said glitchess instead of glitches in the last post. Chalk it up to Friday the 13th! Although that makes no difference that I can see.

Savvy Vegetarian Here's an excellent article on why you should (try to) eat (more) organic food

Kilde: nutrition-now.com
Debate has gone on over the years about the value of eating organic foods over the typically grown produce, meat and dairy products. Organic typically means produced without toxic agricultural chemicals ...

Savvy Vegetarian I really feel I should help people expand their minds as well as their waistlines, so I hope you'll read this thoughtful article about going vegetarian as a process of change, by Jonathon Safran Foer

Kilde: www.huffingtonpost.com
When it comes to meat, change is almost always cast as an absolute. You are a vegetarian or you are not. It's a strange formulation, and it's distracting.

Kai Smith

Kai Smith I am a beginning vegetarian. I have a question and wasnt sure where to post it. How do you know that a product contains GE ingredients? Does it say it on the box? I have never seen it listed in any ingredients. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Thanks for your help.

Hi Kai! This works. GMO foods are NOT LABELLED in the U.S.. That's because our governemt is controlled by multinational corporations like Monsanto. Unless a product has all certified organic ingredients, chances are very good there are GMO foods in it. The big ones are anything made with corn, canola, or soy. That includes cooking oils, high fructose corn syrup, meat replacements, corn starch and much more.
