In a pep talk to students, parents and special guests, Mrs. Obama highlighted the HealthierUS School Challenge, encouraging more schools to make the commitment to making fresh, healthy food availab...le, getting rid of unhealthy choices and setting aside time during the school day for physical activity and nutrition education. I believe that children do need more fruits and veggies on there plates. I am not to sure of limiting the calorie amount that they get. Some children this is there only healthy meal that they get all day. We need to push for more physcail activity with kids. They sometimes get no physcail activty when they get home. I know after watching ... Read Morechildren where I live which is a major city they sometimes spend hours getting home from school do to the bussing system down here. Here Kids no longer live in there school distract and can walk to sschool so go all the wat across town to school on buses. I say bring back PE everyday as part of the school lesson plans.

TO, organic food is almost twice the price as food that's not listed as organic. Schools already struggle to provide healthy nutritious meals for $2.76 per meal from buying commercially available food. Until more money is injected into the NSLP, that's not realistic. The current average cost to serve a meal is $3.16 for non-organic meal ... Read Morecomponents. Just do the math. If you want to have any chance of seeing organic food in school meals, you need to start lobbying for higher meal reimbursement rates, or organic will never be a reasonable, or affordable purchasing option for schools.
