This is soooooooooooooo true.Scott....
That's why I choose my co-writers very very carefully.
I write the story and THEY wrap the music around it.
I write music, too, but I have already a HUGE catalog, and so my melodies start sounding like some of the older songs...so I just Usually CO-WRITE, now.

I really wish I could find a co-writer as far as putting music to my lyrics. I don't play an instrument but I do have the melodies per song in my head. I just don't know who to talk to about completing my material. That is why I have just the one song I wrote with music and had to pay a songwriting service in Nashville 189.00 just for one song. I just don't have that kinf of finance to complete an album of material, plus the more instruments I want added, the higher the price.
