This past winter the Sequoia Field Institute did free guided snow shoe hikes and they plan to do the same this year. I'm not sure what the schedule will be just yet or where the walks will be leaving from, but last year they did them on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am and/or 2pm and participants met at the Giant Forest Museum, which is just a few minutes down the road from us. I'll post this year's details as soon as we receive them.

Lisa My husband & I spent 2 weeks out west on a Harley last summer and SNP was my very favorite place of everything we saw.. and we saw a lot! Stayed at Wuksachi Lodge and bought some wine glasses that I love there.. had etching of Sequoia tree. One broke and have looked at your web page but don't see that these glasses ca...n be bought on-line. Any way of acquiring more without having to physically go to the Lodge's gift shop?

Unfortunately there is no place to ice skate in our immediate area. The nearest place I know of is an indoor rink in Fresno

Regarding the snow, we got a light dusting last Thursday but most of it has already melted off. However, there is another weather system expected to come through on Friday of this week that may give us some more snow.

As far as things to do with kids, you won't want to miss seeing the General Sherman tree, which is just a few minutes down the ... See Moreroad from us. Depending on their ages, there are a number of various hiking trails you can check out. There is a 2 mile loop trail called the Congress Trail that starts from General Sherman and goes by some of the most impressive trees in the park, as well as some shorter 1 mile loops (Hazelwood Nature Trail, and Big Trees Trail) which are right near the Giant Forest Museum. If the road to Crescent Meadow/Tunnel Log is still open, head down that way for some more interesting sights (road closes after the first major snowfall so it's kind of a toss-up at this point).

Yes indeed! For New Years Eve we are having a special dinner in the dining room (still working on the menu), then the dining room becomes a dance floor with a live DJ. You can make dinner reservations directly through the hotel at 559-565-4070 ext. 0.

At this time we don't have any family activities planned for New Years, but the Park Service may be doing something. We'll look into it. If nothing else, the dinner/dance does not have an age restriction so you and your family are welcome to boogie down with us if you like!

Wuksachi Lodge ROAD UPDATE - The roads are not "closed" but CalTran is asking everyone to stay put until they can clear the roads of the boulders. They're expecting to allow traffic through in about an hour or at least have an update.

Wuksachi Lodge The free ranger programs that have been happening this summer are starting to wind down. There will now be 2 programs offered daily through October as staffing levels permit, then things will be on hold for a while until we get enough snow on the ground to start doing guided snowshoe hikes. It's been a great season, ...and a big thanks to all who participated in these summer programs as well as to the rangers who have shared their wealth of knowledge with us.
