You heard the news -- and I asked Twitter (if you don't follow me, c'mon already!) what the new name for Pirate Bay should be now that they've gone on the up-and-up.hazy_m@leighalexander We-Probably-No-Longer-Need-To-Keep-The-Lawyers-At Bay.Grey1986@leighalexander How about Legitimate Businessman...

You guys may have noticed that last week, I was especially interested in how you felt about accessibility...

We had a record 576 votes on the latest SVGL poll -- thank you to all who participated. Yes, even those who whined about the absence of a more moderate option...

Should you wish for a video game-themed way to remember the King of Pop, I recommend the soundtrack to his utterly peculiar Genesis game, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. 16-bit covers of all of his hits? Awesome. Here it is [via Mediafire]...

After we all ooh-ed and aah-ed at the E3 video for Team ICO's new project, The Last Guardian -- which a majority of (super unscientific) SVGL poll respondents said was a PS3-seller -- many of you weighed in on the community discussion as we tried to answer one question: What, exactly, makes that...

I was interested to see that the winning response, with 32% of the votes, to the latest ongoing SVGL poll seems to favor the idea of The Last Guardian as PlayStation 3-seller -- even with no price cut...

Do you remember The NeverEnding Story? That was the first thing to come to mind when I saw that trailer.
It's also got that childhood fantasy of owning a really large, loveable, loyal pet.
At least that was a dream I always had as a kid.

She apparently has a voracious appetite for news, previews and reviews. Who says print's dead?[Previous fluffy cat pictures: Zelda loves the Weighted Companion Cube; Zelda is a Sega fan.]

[no. what i need is to bash my face against the keys a few more times, perhaps try typing some curse words.]Dear Mr. Blauschild,As you may have realized from my blog and body of work widely available on the Internet, I am a video game journalist...

I've received numerous requests to change the header image owing to the fact that pretty much nobody considers Big Boss as sexy as I do...

I happen to think that your current banner if my favorite since I've been visiting your site. It's kinda odd to me that people are requesting that you change it. What would you attribute that to? If I remember correctly a couple of your last banners were Onechanbara and Chie (probably the best new character of last year) from P4. Is it because ... Read Morepeople (i.e. dudes) want to see a cute female character staring at them when they visit SVGL rather than the manliest badass male character in all video game history? For what it's worth I'll just end this comment by kindly requesting that you leave your banner as is.

I had fun at E3, although given I was there to do mostly industry-focused coverage, I kind of scheduled myself pretty intensely and got surprisingly little time to actually play any video games...

The blogs I consider to be SVGL's "neighbors in spirit" -- Michael Abbott, Chris Dahlen, Mitch Krpata, Iroquois Pliskin, Corvus Elrod, L.B. Jeffries, Duncan Fyfe, to name just a few, are written by folks with whom I share a key motivation: to elevate the discussion around games...

Add me to that group. I don't necessarily think taking liberties -- even great liberties -- with the source is a problem. Turning it into such a derivative action game is what gets to me. From what I've seen, why on Earth does it need the Dante's Inferno name? What is it doing with it? What is it saying by using that name? How does it explore... Read More its themes in any way? I just don't see the point, at all. God of War was an original story drawing heavily on famous Greek myths, poems and epics. Dante's Inferno could have been more interesting, even as a derivative action game, if done in the same vein, drawing on famous stories of Judeo-Christian stories (The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, the Old and New Testament, of course).

Lots of you asked me to go on Giant Bomb's podcast, so I did -- I would recommend skipping through me on it, though. I'm listening to it being pretty horrified at my blabbing on drunk/exhausted/wired/too loudly...

[cue zelda fortune teller tune, hum along]Remember when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was telling everybody to start getting ready for new hardware, at a time when everyone else -- analysts and people like EA boss John Riccitiello -- were saying to hang in for a long console cycle?Well, naturally...

[steven spielberg talks about making games more 'approachable' by removing controllers]As a longtime core gamer accustomed to a certain kind of culture and feel to my hobby, I was one of those who strongly resisted and resented Microsoft's entry into the console market...

This is the weather in Los Angeles right now. This is about how much money I have with me.This is the view out my hotel room window....And, this is the view of my hotel room floor.[make your reservations early, kids!]

Love the post and pictures ... Hope meeting star power from the Beatles and umm Paulie Shore made it all worthwhile

If you have the fortitude to follow me on Twitter, you might know I'm big into music, particularly stuff local to me here in New York...

Why am I spending my last business day before E3 offsite? Either I'm crazy or at an event I really care about...

I have a terrible cough inhibiting me from sleep, so I checked my computerland on the way to take some NyQuil...

How are you all this peaceful long weekend? Summer's funny -- one minute it seems ages away, and then suddenly, there it is...

Phew! It's been tough to keep up on blogging, as E3 prep requires sifting through a mountain of emails...

I'm hoping that Killer Instinct 3 gets announced and also hope Nintendo announces a Kid Icarus release...hopefully one or both will happen...

Once, it was considered highly desirable for games to be dense, packed with cinematics and rife with hours upon hours of gameplay to lozenge at a snail's pace. Now, not so, of course.Length and slowness are seen as negatives, detractors to engagement...

One of the things I covered closely when I was with Kotaku last year was the closure of Flagship Studios amid the crash-and-burn of Hellgate: London...

You may or may not yet have seen my Kotaku feature for this month -- it's about games as art. No, seriously...

See this over at GameSetWatch? You guys know I'm a big text adventure geek, and apparently Jim Munroe (he did Everybody Dies, if you've played that one) has gone and made one about being a coder at GDC and having to network with different people and build your game team...

About this time last year, Electronic Arts' (ultimately unsuccessful) bid for Take-Two was splashed all over our news headlines, and we here at SVGL had fun imagining a melodramatic soap opera conflict going on behind the scenes -- even though EA boss Riccitiello told me that the entire...

Sorry blogging has been light, Sexy Videogamelanders. We've been pretty busy at Gamasutra -- and to tell the truth, I haven't had much to say, since I haven't even gotten much game time in over the past few weeks...

Should a designer's objective be to build an environment where players can drive events and experiences, or should the game determine the objective, with responsibility for leading player behavior in meaningful ways? This philosophy conflict between user-created experiences and designed authorship...

I've not written very much about the Resident Evil 5 racism thing because, frankly, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I decided that I'd need to play the game with my own two hands and gain some context before I could construct a discussion of any kind around the issue...

Why am I blogging twice on a Sunday? I almost never do that. Well, because there's just so much awesome stuff out there today, and I don't want you guys to miss any of it.I just spent way too many words linking you to Tom Cross' Resident Evil 5 article...

Oh, hey! Remember around Christmastime, Michael Abbott's Brainy Gamer podcast had a whole lot of us on for just about the most epic podcast series ever? He's done it again, folks, with a new post-GDC series...

Because I am a games journalist, I am often approached by my friends for feedback and instruction on various issues...

Now that GDC is behind us and I'm back from vacation, I wanted to respond in particular to the rant by fellow Game Critics Rant panelist and Smartbomb co-author Heather Chaplin, by far the most controversial and the most-discussed.Chaplin asserted that our familiar argument that games themselves...

I am taking this week off to recoup from GDC, yay! I'm pretty sure that all I'll do all week is sleep and play Lumines. See you soon!

You knew I wasn't gonna miss this one.Just wanted to point you guys to my full coverage of Kojima's fun-fascinating talk at GDC -- he went on at his signature length, full of his usual metaphors and humor, but the result was a really comprehensive history of the design philosophy behind the Metal...

Around E3, I wrote a bit about how I felt kind of sorry for Nintendo. No matter what the company achieves, traditional gamers always seem to be disappointed with any announcement it makes...

Okay, so this post is a day late -- forgive, because I've been running around the convention center like a maniac all day, and running around the party circuit all night...

Today's day two here at GDC. Everyone I've met so far says they expected me to be taller. SURPRISE, I AM SHORT! Crucially! So let's catch up on yesterday -- do you guys remember last year at GDC I chaired and ran the Worlds in Motion Summit...

Hello everyone! I'm up bright and early (ugh) at the Moscone Convention Center for GDC. Going to be really busy this week and won't be able to blog much, but I hope to bring you quick updates, at least...
