Shane Powers Photography The "Ashes and Snow" project is one of the most beautiful and ambitious I've ever seen. Made of motion picture, photographs and a hand-made Codex book. Follow the link below, choose either the Enhanced Version (with amazing flash/video) and click on "Explore", or go to the "Basic Experience" and click on "Vision". B...eautiful. Almost ranks up there with the film "Baraka"...

For the fully immersive experience of Ashes and Snow, we have created a web site that requires Flash Player 8, superior computer speed and a broadband connection. It is designed for a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768.

Shane Powers Photography needs to budget for a hairstylist. How can art dealers take me seriously with that mop? At least "Walter" was fetching, but he's still a lady-killer

Shane Powers Photography Had a great time at the Center for Fine Art Photography's opening of the "Portraits" exhibition with sis, Kara. Got to meet some of the other photographers, and the work and show was VERY strong and extremely well-displayed. My piece even got a mention in some online reviews.

I could find something to rave about every month at the Center for Fine Art Photography. The shows are consistently strong, and it’s an art oasis with a well-lit, expertly-hung gallery and a cozy café (try the apple pie). ...

The International Exhibition is almost halfway over at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Ft. Collins. Got a piece on display there, can't complain about that. I hope someone buys that sucker, 'cause I got nowhere to PUT IT! ;-)

Shane Powers Photography These are "portraits" of my dad and the only remaining specimens of hundreds collected by the Baker University (Kansas City) expedition through Idaho in 1907.

Thanks, everyone! Dad will be either thrilled or horrified (probably thrilled and a bit confused) to know that he has a strong Facebook following. I'd set up a "Fan Page" for him, but he'd never check it... ;-)

Shane Powers Photography Hello, friends and colleagues:

Just wanted to let you know that YOU, yes YOU can learn how to make simple, beautiful, hand-made photographs from ANY IMAGE, whether a digital photo on your computer or in your point-n-shoot camera, a large negative you've been wanting to print, or even objects that are special to you.

CYAN...OTYPE | VAN DYKE BROWN | GUM PRINTS
Workshops given by Shane Powers at the Harvey Milk Community Center (Castro)
Four Tuesdays from 6:30pm-9:00pm
Oct. 27 - Nov. 17

These three processes have been around since the mid-1800s, when they were used widely. Today, they are very inexpensive, simple ways to make images using ultraviolet radiation (such as sunlight) that can be developed in WATER. That's right, WATER.

Some practical uses:
* Greeting/holiday cards * Invitations * Decorations * Gifts

Why it's so cool:
* There's no denying it: HAND-MADE art is just extra special!
* ANYONE CAN DO IT, regardless of photographic knowledge
* It is simply friggin' BEAUTIFUL!

Intermediate/Advanced Photographers:
* Do you have images that look great, but you feel like there's something missing? Maybe you need to try one of these historical processes to make them look right!
* Are you tired of black & white or digital printing, and just need something else for a change?
* This class is designed for ALL skill levels -- you will learn and be challenged!

Do you only use digital?

Lorie: I never shoot digitally, I prefer shooting film with very old cameras. But for these historical processes, it's easiest to make "digital negatives" -- from any image shot with a digital camera or film that has been scanned. I use some high-end inkjet transparency sheets like what people used to use to show charts & stuff on overhead ... See Moreprojectors. I can take the digital image, reverse it in Photoshop and have a "negative", which I print on that transparency sheet with a photo inkjet printer.
