My son, Forrest, was 9 years old when Mr. Exley died. He was too young at the time to be one of his students, but Forrest took Karate from him. Forrest was absolutely devastated, as was the entire community, when he died. He had a wonderful way of instilling confidence in all of his students, as he did in Forrest. Thanks to whomever took the time to create this page - a wonderful tribute to a great man and educator.

I knew Sheck Exley back in the 1980's. Paul DeLoach introduced me to him. We made several Dives together, at Green Sink, Spilt Sink's, Sullivan, and Big Dismal. He was Married to Mary Ellen Eckhoff at that time. I was shocked when Paul told me that Sheck had died in Mexico. He was an Intelligent Person, but his Humilty was his greatest asset. I feel I am a better person for knowing him. May God Bless Sheck, May He Rest In Peace

And who doesn't remember "My Dear Aunt Shecky" for the order of operations! He was great.

Yep Emily, too funny the "Ali's bra" class was the best. Somehow it never occured to me to be embarassed. I still remember him giving us a quiz and the answers when read in order were 2 kid's phone numbers. He cared enough to make the class fun and funny. I read on here about his humility and it was so true, he'd done so many great things and I never even knew about them.
