It’s our Birthday!
Sheffield Live! 93.2 FM is celebrating it’s second anniversary on the
29th October 09. It’s been 2 years since we first went on air
full-time broadcasting to the City of Sheffield. We would love you to
come along and celebrate with us at the Ethio Cubana Restaurant on
Arundel Gate (near the academy and j...ust opposite TJ Hughes) from 8 - late on Thursday night. You will get the chance to met some of our DJ’s including Mauricio from Latino Times, Sergio from Pacha Mama and Andy Healy of Africa Beats.
We will also have some live music from the local scene. The resturant
will be open and sells gorgeous food at very reasonable prices and
there is a late licence going on until 4 in the morning if we want. We
are asking people to make a donation of £3.00 if they can afford it on
the night. So please come along with your party hat on and your
dancing shoes. We look forward to seeing you there.Read More

Sheffield Live! was on the Fourth Plinth too…
Antony Gormley's Fourth Plinth art project in London's Trafalgar Square came to an end today after 100 days and 2,400 participants.
On a day when we reflect on the highlights, successes and artistic merit of Gormley’s living sculpture project, Sheffield Live! is here to remin...d you that we were there too!
On Tuesday 21st July at 8pm, Alan Fransman broadcast a radio show from the Fourth Plinth on Trafalgar Square for Sheffield Live! 93.2FM. Fransman and the broadcast became part of 'One & Other' sculptor Antony Gormley's project to create an astonishing living monument.
The Sheffield Live! broadcast was heard not only by people on Trafalgar Square, but across Sheffield on 93.2FM, across London on Art Radio Art station, Resonance 104.4FM and on the internet.
Fransman read text messages from listeners in Kent, Scotland, New York, Germany, Sheffield and his audience in Trafalgar Square. The Twitter discussion during his broadcast is on this link: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23on eandother+radio
Alan used his opportunity on the plinth to demonstrate the creativity, initiative and resourcefulness that exists within the community media sector today. He shared a piece of Sheffield by playing a wide selection of music from local bands and artists rarely played anywhere else. A recent open letter from the community media sector to the Prime Minister, calling for an increased Community Radio Fund was also in the broadcast:

Bare Knuckle Soul are a collection of poets, musicians and singers who met through the Sheffield music scene in 2002. They began work on a project rooted in and informed by the history of Groundbreaking black music, from Billie Holiday to Curtis Mayfield through The Specials and Fela Kuti ending somewhere around , D’Angelo, Soul II Soul and Outkast.
This song was exclusive to the broadcast and will be part of their
forthcoming album. Due for release in 2010
3. 'Sesifikile' by SOSA-XA!

A local amateur choral group that explores the music of multiple Southern African languages. Following their entry in the BBC One 'Last Choir Standing' competition, Sosa-Xa! was referred to as "the UK’s first imbube intercultural choir working in South African languages, whose musical director Mandla Sibanda brings with him more energy than a nuclear reactor." Song taken from their album 'Manhanga'

Coming in from the latin wing but taking influence from many a dancing music sub-genre (this-a-step, that-a-beat, them-a-hop) along the way and sticking it all through the especially built phuture motion machine shot thru with that Sheffield sound. This song was exclusive to the broadcast and will be part of their forthcoming album, due for release in the autumn.
