Shiver Shiver
The proficient and hooky music of Shiver Shiver has been described as “Intelligent Pop Music,” and “Soulfully Seductive.” Their “big sound from a two-piece” is hard to pigeonhole, and has slices of electronic, soul, glam, you name it thrown into the mix. Original, raw and organic, the two skilled musicians... generate an fresh, eclectic energy. Recently, Shiver Shiver was the only band to ever be the focus of ‘loom’, a theme based dance party sponsored by Red Bull. Shiver Shiver was selected to play The Holland Center’s Summer Series, “Wild About Omaha,” and opened for National acts Paper Route and Audrye Sessions at The Bourbon Theatre. Two songs, “November Song” and “I’m Leaving You” from “Soulless Sex Appeal,” the duo’s debut release, have hit the homepage on The Sixty One. THESIXTYONE.COM Shiver Shiver is a collaboration between Chase Thornburg and Jordan Elsberry. Chase's approach to the drums is relentless and uniquely instrumental, while Jordan's way with the keys is broad, orchestral and earthy. The duo possesses an uncanny vocal affinity. These elements merge to create a fresh musical identity of tight, thoughtful songwriting that is both catchy and complex.
the State Of
the State Of is the product of the marriage between Steph Taylor’s edgy piano/synth playing and Nabedi Osorio’s electronic-like live drumming. Their dark pop sensibility is born out of their hometown of Miami, FL and is reminiscent of artists ranging from the Eurythmics and Bjork to Radiohead and the Police. Taylor’s style of playing is often percussive and dark where Osorio’s drumming is melodic and steadfast and when coupled, they create a dynamic sound larger than what’s expected out of two people.
With a plethora of new material, they are currently on tour to showcase songs from their upcoming album, Day Of Abandon, which has tracks that vary from live drum and bass beats met with melodic piano movements to guitar driven rock songs, all reflecting that dark, haunting sound that the State Of is notorious for capturing.
Jodie Love Hinckley
If magic lightning bolts with diamond studded slide whistles threw up salt water taffy flavored diarrhea into the mouth of recently deceased character actor J.T. Walsh whilst he gargled it vigorously with intermittent sprinkles of watermelon pop rocks and sang an operatic version of Missy Elliott's "Whatcha Gon' Do" that would be every song that we have ever written...ever.

Cultivating an intelligently crafted and unpretentious sound that incorporates organic and electronic elements, CIB is difficult to dismiss as yet another indie band from Lawrence. While the band’s music is reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie sampling the harmonic glory of Fleet Foxes, CIB seems to tie up the loose ends presented by both bands. Imagine if Ben Gibbard actually sounded like a lead vocalist rather than a narrator in a Wes Anderson film, and if Fleet Foxes could actually write a song as brilliant as “Soul Meets Body”. Throw in a perfectly nuanced pop sensibility and you begin to approach the genius of CIB. Perhaps it has to do with the bands varied influences, which extend beyond the typical name dropping of whatever too cool for you band Pitchfork may be pimping at the moment. The Lawrence, Kansas indie music scene has produced a winner in Cowboy Indian Bear, an Indie trio who exchanged the right to their name for a six-pack of beer. Kansas City’s Pitch Magazine Music Award nominees who never put on a dull show, everyone in the band plays the drums, and they constantly switch it up, bring in an additional singer, jumping on different instruments, etc.
Rock Paper Dynamite began playing music with each other in the early part of 2007. Brothers Andrew and Joseph Janousek, and friends Scott Arust and Trey Abel (all from rural NE) came together through fate. The boys played small shows to get themselves used to the crowd and become more comfortable with the music they have been performing. After endless amounts of shows, they decided it was time to record their songs. The boys turned to Curtis Grubb, of Grubb Inc. Production and Recrding Studios, and from there history was made. The boys released their debut self titled EP in mid 2007. The album is constantly moving, but never rushes. With a kinetic energy and a stellar sound, Rock Paper Dynamite is worth a listen. Rock Paper Dynamite recently played at Joslyn Art Museum.
